  1. The fact that Rocco doesn’t start Castro there is so confounding and frustrating. Quintana, not a K guy…hasn’t K’d anyone today. Correa not a high K guy. My god, take a chance! Send him and tell Correa to swing the bat. My god!
  2. Buxton trying to pull a pitch 6 inches off the plate.
  3. An affront to the game of baseball played at a professional level. Truly gross. Even Milwaukee played their part with the positional pitcher in the 9th. Gross. Meanwhile, you can assign blame anyway you like…I’m talking in general, not just this game…Rocco is 1000% part of the problem.
  4. One that every team in the league could have had…many, including the Twins, passed on him twice.
  5. The Twins took Prielipp 15 picks ahead of Misiorowski…who is more than a year younger than Prielipp. The key…Misiorowski wasn’t going to sign for what Prielipp was willing to sign for.
  6. 34% K rate against right-handed pitching in AAA, makes him unplayable against righties with the Twins. And it’s tough to carry a guy like that with little/no defensive value when you have to carry a gazzillon relievers. I’d wait for when the team will face a spate of left-handed starters.
  7. Intellectually, it would make some sense…for a low price. Emotionally, it’s depressing to even have to consider it.
  8. Maybe. Meanwhile, $1.5B would have netted them $30M in a money market by now if they had accepted such an offer 6 months ago. And that’s not taking into account the finance charges on the debt that they continue to pay (or accumulate). I doubt the Pohlads are ‘dumb’ business-acumen wise. And they have all the info that we don’t. But, it could be that they are simply no longer (or never were) really motivated to sell at ‘market’. It’s the scenario that we fear most, probably.
  9. I don’t think it hurts a team’s value when the Yankees play 6-7 games in town instead of the Kansas City Royals. Also, Tampa St. Pete area is just about to blow past the Twin Cities metro in population, and is growing exponentially faster than the Twin Cities. When rich people buy assets, it’s not so much what the current value is, it’s much more about what the value is expected to be at some point in the future. I don’t see in any way how this puts upward pressure on the price of the Twins. And the debt is worse than no stadium. A stadium can be built. And when it’s built, you have another asset to offset the cost incurred. The Twins debt is money the Polads are hoping someone is willing to just dump down a drain for the privilege of owning the club.

  11. I’ll be interested to see if the buyer has Tampa/St Pete roots. If not, it would be a slightly less ‘good’ sign that an out-of-towner chose the Rays over the Twins for the exact price the Pohlads are offering. In fact, I wouldn’t think that would help the Pohlad’s stance at all. Quite the opposite.
  12. Went to Saints game last night. Not the same feeling/atmosphere as when they were independent. Now more fans there to see prospects developing than to just have zany fun, even though some of that zany fun still exists. One game, but boy the baseball was awful. Slow, a ton of pitches required to get anyone out, really bad defense on both sides not helping. Raya bad, Dobnack not much better. Horrible situational offense in extras. Raya, following easily his best outing has another train wreck. Walks, wild pitches, wild pickoff attempt, hits and an HR. K’d 3 of 18 batters. Sigh. When you look at the current pitching staff at St. Paul…yikes…they’re beyond thin, even for AAA. Granted, it would look a lot batter if Morris or Lewis or Raya could consistently get outs. But they can’t. So far.
  13. Yes and no. Rosario still has a TON more swing and miss in him, and more power than Rodriguez at this point. Meanwhile, Rodriguez has one of the best hit/contact tools in the system….and an absolute hose for an arm. I think they both may have relatively high ceilings, but, to me Rosario’s floor is still much lower than Rodriguez’s.
  14. Ha! This is exactly what this organization has banked on for years. If they made ‘ALC Runners-Up’ pennants, this org would proudly fly them among the bevy of wild-card and ALC ‘championship’ pennants. It’s actually embarrassing. The Poland’s may NEVER sell the team!!
  15. I mean he has, and needs to be, held to a higher standard than any other free agent simply based on price. So, not great. But, still no. bWAR since he joined the club: 10.6 Buxton over the same period: 10.3 When the club has managed to make the postseason over that period.. Correa: 9 hits, 4 RBI, and about a 1.000 OPS. Buxton: 1 plate appearance (career postseason OPS is 286)
  16. Today would have been a good day for Buxton to gut it out. SWR with a step in the right direction. Nice to see Lee showing some pop from the right side recently. Otherwise, same old, same old. The back end of the bullpen is far from dominant or even really good. I’d call it extremely ordinary.
  17. Every year we expect Castro to be a bit player. And every year he ends up being one of our best players. This is not a good thing.
  18. Including…no, especially, those that went the extra mile to adopt, or become Foster dads!
  19. His fielding metrics may say he’s a DH, but his hitting numbers say he’s an outfielder. Or a really good defensive catcher. 😉
  20. Definitely not a win-now move. He’s unable to earn consistent playing time on a team that has an offense worse than the Twins. Larnach has been infinitely better offensively. Not close. MAYBE a win-later move? He’s 26. Yes, 2nd overall draft pick…but consensus was projected much lower…and sometimes teams simply make bad picks. Regardless, I’d rather significant moves not be made until the future status of this FO is more certain. It’s not like the club is on the verge of…anything.
  21. If not for the recent trend of horrible losses, this would not have been a discouraging loss at all (as long as Buxton is fine). Houston’s been playing well, Brown’s a stud, Ryan did his job, we need Lee to take a step, not like Duran was getting hit hard at all, etc.
  22. Are we 100% sure that Raya isn’t Bride’s replacement? Presumably, Raya is materially more effective on the mound, and, if he HAD to hit, not much less effective.
  23. And drafted only 153 picks after the Twins took Keoni Cavaco!
  24. I can’t even imagine the number of articles regarding the brilliance of their pitcher evaluation and development the Astros equivalent of TD must have.
