    Tough loss. Having said that…now I know why the Dodgers have been struggling lately and were completely dismantled by a good club (Brewers) for 6 or 7 consecutive games. That is not a very good team right now.

    Me thinks you’re inventing drama that doesn’t actually exist except for in the mind of a hopeful and unobjective fan. Let him figure things out and gain experience. The last thing this org needs is yet another year of pretending that they’re competing for something. They’re not.

    I think the first thing you do (if you believe in the talent) is nothing. He’s young/inexperienced enough…780 career PA…that it’s not at all out of the ordinary to still be in the ‘figuring it out’ stage as the league makes its adjustments against you. I remain way more concerned about the health than the performance in the long term.

    And there were 2 out. I tend to agree with this exception to the rule there. Can’t walk him. Unbelievable…and most of the pitches weren’t even close to the strike zone.

    In the case of Vasquez exactly -0.5 bWAR over 3 seasons. 1.2 bWAR for Paddack. Let’s aim higher.

    Not really. Not offensive numbers. But, overall I’d have to agree. Larnach has never really been able to turn the corner into a very valuable player.

    He came back and struck out Ohtani in the next PA. I don’t think anyone is saying any more than that, under the circumstances, it was a horrendous pitch, intended or not, in an otherwise very good start.

    He’s doing a ton of sitting if Smith and Ohtani are healthy….almost doesn’t matter how good he is. Ohtani’s the DH. If he can play 1B…doesn’t matter, you’re not sitting Freeman who is also locked up for another couple years. I wouldn’t be so sure.

    Also…Gonzalez has a SLG about 80 points HIGHER than Arraez had at any and every stop in the minors. The bad comparison goes both ways. Get it together.

    If the hit/contact tool proves to be elite, he’ll be in the majors. Period. Hit tool trumps every other tool, and it’s not close. Yes, if there’s no power, then the hit tool must be truly elite. But, it’s silly to obsessed with his power, he turned 21 this year. 2025: Gonzalez…7 HR in 81 games Rodriguez…5 HR in 51 games (one year older, one level higher) Jenkins…3 HR in 35 games (one year younger, 2 HR in 26 AA games). The obsessing on his power at this stage is silly. Maybe he never developes power. Who knows? But where are the ‘beware, Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez may never develop power’ articles??

    Don’t think overall his corner OF defense will be as bad as you paint it. Or, maybe I should say, it could end up being better. He can get into better shape, and the arm is plus…if not plus plus.

    I agree with the premise. Even if it means getting worse before you get better. I could not care less about a 2026 run at ‘good-ish’. Long past time this organization adopted an approach that aims higher even at greater risk of being bad for a while. Perpetually ‘competing’, and occasionally capturing, a wild-card or division title in the ALC is not success, and shouldn’t be treated as such. This organization hasn’t been serious for 15 years and counting. 2019 is no exception, where the starting pitcher in game 2 of playoffs in Yankee Stadium was Randy Dobnack.

    You get real, and big value when you trade good players that are NOT on expiring contracts. That’s the way it works. Yes, trade some expiring contracts…but, I’m always amazed at how unwilling we (fans) are to trade established guys no matter how stagnant…perpetually stagnant…the club is with the current ‘core’. Tweaking, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting to be good enough to win the AL Central, or a wild-card birth, has been the strategy forever. Where is the rationale for more of that?? At some point, you have to actually DO SOMETHING with meaningful upside and risk to actually compete for prizes that matter…even if it means you win 70 games for a year or two instead of 85 (in a division where 85 wins means you’re probably average, at best).

    Can’t be long before the baseball world turns its eyes to the epic race shaping up that is the 2025 battle for 2nd place in the AL central. Authors will write books. Legends will be passed down. Who will make the key deadline transaction to enable their club to threaten the magic 80-win mark? Like the timeless tale of the tortoise and the hare. Except instead of a hare, there’s two more tortoises.
