  1. Still waiting for Kirloff. Like I said earlier, the team that stays healthy will win. We are not healthy right now. Maybe we can get Longoria from the Giants in a deal for a prospect or 2. Or maybe a right handed hitting outfielder if none are in the system. However, we need starting pitching since we have so many injuries. Alcala deserves to start and can probably go 5 innings if he isn't wild. As far as 6 hits in an inning as someone said, not many teams do that very often- maybe once a week. Leave Cave alone. He's not the only one not doing much. The White Sox are decent and the Indians had good pitching til their 2 starters screwed up.
  2. No reason not to give him more appearances but maybe in the 6th, 7th or 8th innings. He might be the closer of the future and has done well so far. Moving from his fastball to Romo's slower stuff or vice-versa could be a good move.
  3. Berrios has mostly been good for 5 innings then becomes a question mark. Maybe we are expecting too much of him. He made the All Star team but his 3.0 ERA wasn't that great. Rogers is going through what all closers go through and some of his better pitches have been dropping in for hits. It's his hanging pitches that are alarming right now and seeing him blow a great game by Maeda really hurt. I don't think anyone else can really close but if his next opportunity is not successful we may need to take him out of there for a bit.
  4. I've seen several games from both leagues on various channels and the balls-strikes calls have been awful. Even when the catcher on another team got crossed up and hurt his hand the other day, the pitch was right down the middle of the plate and the umpire never moved. Maybe they should give 1000 fans a button to call balls and strikes on each pitch as we can see the ball in the box. And there are hundreds of umps who make the big mistake of calling the pitch (especially a big curve ball) where the catcher catches it rather than where the ball is as it passes the batter.
  5. Rogers is going through what all closers go through. However, it seems to me that the bullpen's problems are more with the "unknowns" like Wisler, Alcala, Guerrin and Thorpe whose command isn't there yet. We need some more veteran presence here. I'm not sure why Romo hasn't pitched more but he may have been hurt earlier. Let's see what becomes available as we get towards the end of August.
  6. Not much excitement here. They may want to try moving Sano to third and Marwin at first and see what happens- either for a few games or until Donaldson comes back. Or maybe they are looking to trade someone (Adrianza?) for a pitcher- though he won't get much. Who knows.
  7. There is no doubt that injuries have hurt us. However, as I had said before, you cannot go by what happened last year. Garver may not be the hitter we think he is. But he should certainly be better than what he has shown so far. I like Sano but he can't hit a slider or curve to save his life. The batters are taking too many pitches that are down the middle and falling behind in the count. It seems to me that everyone is so enamoured with the "bomba" that they are swinging from the heels and looking horrible when they get behind in the count. I guess that is the nature of today's game when all you hear about is exit velocity (which can mainly be provided by the pitcher) and how far did it fly. We will be ok (I think) because our division sucks. However we had better get back on track fast. Where is Kiriloff is my question.
  8. Home runs are great but we need to get back to getting those hits with runners in scoring position. Glad to see the pitching do well throughout the Cleveland series so far.
  9. 6- Arraez will hit .400 7- Donaldson will be a bust 8- Berrios will win his next 6 starts with an ERA of under 2 9- The Twins will trade for a starter on August 30th. You asked for over-reactions. Trade Sano? The Twins remember Ortiz too much to pull that trigger. He'll be fine and bat .277 with 11 home runs though he may strike out 80 times. That's what you get with sluggers. Deal with it. Gotta love Cruz but we don't play the White Sox every day (too bad).
  10. The Twins have lofty goals and could very well reach all of them. However, playing just 1 practice game could hurt, expectations for players such as Garver, Kepler and even Arraez may not be met and Sano trying for 20 home runs could hurt him and the team. I'm a bit disappointed they released Chacin as you never can have too much pitching but maybe he wasn't coming back to previous abilities. I think the Twins will win 37-38 games but the Yanks will win 41 so the Twins will rank 2nd in the AL and probably play the White Sox or Cleveland in first round of the playoffs. Berrios will be the best starter at 7-2, Cruz will come close to MVP and we will trade for a starter in August. Now let's play ball.
  11. Look. EVERY team is going to be dealing with COVID-19. The winner this year could very well be the team that avoids it the most or gets luckiest. While the loss of Buxton and Sano will hurt, they have been out of the lineup before. You need guys like Gonzalez to be the fill-in for various positions so we need to use him. I'd like to see Kiriloff get playing time because he will be better than anything we have right now. However, we have to win this year so he may get squeezed out. But I WOULD play him if I were the manager (though I might sit him against the top pitchers).
  12. If I were a starter, I would never sign a contract with innings incentives. I would sign one with win incentives if incentives were offered. Innings can be manipulated while wins are not likely to be unless the team is stupid. Even an ERA incentive is beeter than an innings incentive. Management will always manipulate things in their favor.
  13. I have to say that, offensively, Donaldson and Cron are almost a wash. However, having John enables Sano to move over (though I'm not so sure he was "that" bad a 3B). Replacing Smoak is the hard part. Hopefully Arraez will keep hitting around .300 and can play good defense. Maybin had a great year but won't live up to it. Keuchel and Hill are also very close (IMHO).
  14. Hill will be a great change of pace between the harder throwers if Baldelli sets him up correctly. Sano might struggle if he doesn't get several reps before the season actually starts. We lost a very good pitcher recently the same way (Lynn). However I doubt the Twins would trade Sano. I just hope the middle relievers can do as well as last year. That could be the key to beating out the White Sox (32 wins) and Indians (31 wins).
  15. A strange schedule in a strange season. We don't play Detroit until the 33rd game then 10 times. Then we end up with Cincy rather than an AL team. I figure 37 wins but lots will depend on COVID-19. The Cubs and Cardinals will be toughest in the NL but anyone can get hot in a sprint. And then the bunt comes back into play in extra innings. I don't agree with the head jocks. I think teams will (try to) bunt the runner over from 2B in the extras but it depends on who is at bat. There also will be lots of split starter games early and some pitchers may pitch in 45 games in relief. Then there are the youngsters who should get a shot with the weaker teams. It will be interesting.
  16. It will all depend on staying away from any major losing streaks and staying healthy. I think KC will be tougher than people think as will the White Sox. We are lucky to be playing the NL Central as far as overall record but staying away from top pitchers will make it tough come playoff time. I think we can go as good as 41-19 but will probably be closer to 37-23.
  17. I can't see Plouffe being better than Sano but it's hard to put Cruz in there on one season. I guess there was not much else to choose from but you could put Sano at third and let Garver be the DH. As far as Buxton, we are still going on potential which has only shown itself in one season. I really liked Escobar and am sorry the Twins traded him.
  18. I still don't see why they cannot allow maybe 2-4 fans per row while wearing masks. People go shopping, etc. so spacing fans out could work. Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the ballplayers will want to play. The season will deserve an asterisk anyway.
  19. I don't think the Twins ever really gave Park a chance. Once he started to swing and miss they just gave up on him and never brought him back. Hard to say why but he's better off where he is. And this next guy??? Not with this team right now but they can afford to wait and see.
  20. I see the Twins battling Boston for 3rd place in this setup. If it were regular baseball, I see the Twins eeking out a division win over the White Sox with Cleveland 3rd. I know we are all Twins fans so we have some rose colored glasses when looking at the Twins but I don't think we can expect several players to duplicate their 2019 seasons. I hope I am wrong but have to look at it realistically. In my simulated, not scientific, season using the regular MLB schedule, the Twins are 9-7 through games of April 15th and in second place behind, of all teams, KC (I told you it was not scientific). Happy Jackie Robinson Day.
  21. I'd rather see a World Series between the '87 and '91 Twins who both won their series. Even the '65 Twins versus those teams would be interesting. The '19 Twins were a fun team but there were other division winners as well. Were any of these pitchers as good as Mudcat Grant, Jim Kaat (my favorite all-time Twin), Jim Perry or Dean Chance?
  22. With the way Cruz was swinging the bat in Spring Training, there was no reason to believe that he would fall off the table- at least this year. His production will decline some but I would guess he could hit 35 homers and bat .280 in 130 games if healthy. Maybe even stay productive at 41. He seems to take care of himself well.
  23. Easy answer JDubs. It's the one that wins our next World Series.
  24. This is the biggest question for the Twins- can Garver hit nearly as well as last year. Of course, Castro didn't add much offense but was a good framer. Garver has improved his defense and will probably hit around .280 with 25 home runs. That should be ok. Avila has had some decent years and could surprise a bit. Backup catchers are out there if one of these gets hurt so I'm not worried about that.
  25. You know what you are getting with Sano offensively. you get the streaks- good and bad- like every slugger. We won't quite know what we will get defensively until we get halfway through the season- whenever that is. I believe we have enough depth at first base to let Sano SH when necessary or even rest completely against a tough right hander. Marwin will bounce back offensively this year.
