  1. The only time he put the ball in play was GIDP that probably cost the Twins a run
  2. Don't know much about Bowmann, but Theilbar has been Bad nice being activated
  3. Its hard to justify Farmer getting the start just because its a LHP. He is 0-12, Miranda is 3-9 and Julien 5-15 vs LHP. I would have Julien in place of Farmer at 2nd and Miranda at 3rd. I also would have Buxton leading off ahead of Jeffers. If Jeffers gets a hit ahead of Buxton and Buxton then follows with another hit I'm afraid Buxton's hit will go from a double to single or a triple to a double. Ryan had better be on, because this lineup doesn't look good.
  4. I'll disagree with some saying that the schedule has zero affect on the slow start. As of last Sunday games played against Chi WS and Oak: Minn 0; Cle 10 (8-2); KC 7 (6-1) and Det 6 (4-2). The schedule will even out over time, but IMHO it does have some affect on the slow start. I believe that injuries have had the largest affect on the Twins. Losing Lewis and (effectively) Kepler on opening day and Correa 10 games later has hurt both the offense and defense. Varland was exposed as a below replacement level starter going 0-4 in 4 starts against Milwaukee, LAD, Balt. and Det. (He may have won 1 or 2 games if his starts were against Chi and Oak). My question is who gets demoted or DFA'd when Alcala has served his time in AAA and Duran comes back? The Twins 3 worst relivers (SSS, I understand) are Thielbar, Okert and Jackson giving up earned runs in 13 of their 21 appearances. Jax, Stewart, Sands, Alcala and Funderburk have given up earned runs in 5 of their 41 appearances.
  5. I'm going to give Lopez some slack. The hit to start the 4th was a play that i thought Farmer should make. Farmer isn't here for his bat, he is here for his defense. I believe the inning is much different had the play been made and Lopez wouldn't have burned so many pitches.

  7. Gameday has Jax throwing 3 consecutive changeups the last two being in the middle of the plate. Is that on Jeffers or Jax?
  8. I think the biggest difference in the was the first inning. .Mullins makes a great catch to rob the Twins of at least one run and Julien makes an error that gives Os 2 runs. This is 2 games that the Twins defense has given away.
  9. How many shortstops can get into position to take the cutoff from the right field corner and throw Otani out at home? Correa is off to a good start with the bat (for him,), but his defense has been amazing! 5 home runs in last 2 games, maybe the bats are waking up.
  10. Julien found his bat. Raised BA and OPS by 81 and 313 respectively.
  11. 0-3 RISP, not even a productive out.
  12. Julien had better find his bat, or Martin may be getting some starts at 2nd.
  13. Most disappointed in Buxton performance yesterday. 2 chances with runner on 3rd less than 2 outs and he does put the ball in play. If he hits the ball on the ground, even if Cleveland fields 2 runs should score (Kirilloff in the first and Castro in the 7th). I also don't understand Rocco keeping Kep in the cleanup spot. The pitching has been better than expected with 5 of the 6 games, giving up 3 ER or less. It's the bats that are letting us down, sure miss Lewis.
  14. Funderburk doesn't do well coming in with inherited runners.
  15. I agree! Stewart was used for shutdown inning after taking the lead and Jax for the top of their order
  16. I believe that the only current roster position open is outfield between Larnach and Wallner, with Wallner having a poor ST. Miranda is destined for St. Paul. However, I think Miranda has gotten somewhat of a bad rap for his defensive abilities. I looked at his 2022 OAA and he was a -4. He was -3 at 2nd base, which was included with his 1st base summary. I am wondering if some of this is shift related, that has been mitigated by the change of in the shift rules.
  17. IMHO first base is probably the only position that you can go from a below average fielder to average or above average fielder. AK is a left handed fielder and is 6' 2", both of which can't be taught. I believe he can learn to be at least an average defensive first baseman. He does have to learn to be willing to use is body to block grounders hit to him and not try to do too much. Per MLB his error in the playoffs came for probably not seeing the ball well and trying to turn a double play, whereas if he had gotten his body in front of the ball he may still get 2 outs, but would have at least gotten one out. I wonder if Baldelli's comments aren't aimed at getting AK to work harder on his defense.
  18. I believe AK will make the 26 man roster out of ST as I don't think there is enough time for Lee to show he is a substantial improvement over AK (Lee's OPS is .715 vs AK's .749). In addition Lee is not on the 40 man roster yet. I would love to see an infield of Lewis, Correa, Lee and Julien/Santana, but I question whether that will happen in '24. The only ways I see Lee making it to the Twins in '24 is as an injury replacement (most likely) or he is tearing the leather off the ball in SP and the Twins are having difficulty scoring runs. JMHO
  19. If I remember correctly Julien started out with a negative Outs Above Average(OAA), but finished at zero, meaning he was an average defensive second basement. In 2023 the OAA for Polanco and Arraez, were a negative 7 and 13 respectively. If Lee is as good as people expect, he will be the 2nd baseman of the future. Meaning Julien will either move to 1st or will be traded. It wouldn't surprise me if he was traded, especially if he can play average or better defense at 2nd.
  20. I would say that there is one position battle left; Wallner vs Larnach. While I expect Wallner to make the opening day roster, if he has a poor spring training and Larnach is crushing the ball I could see Larnach getting the nod.
