Six innings of shutout ball against a potent opponent. Two outs into the seventh, the wheels fall off... it happens.

Man! You take these Twins losses harder than most.

Ahh, here I thought they still played 9 innings in MLB.

Didn't realize only part of the performance counted.

Plenty of guys haven't gotten six shutout innings against the Tigers. Including Correia last time, right? Maybe glunn wants to clarify what he means by "good".

Do the TWins even realize Clete Thomas is still on the roster?

Who??

Carnac: A Bad Rally Avatar

Ed: I'm not familiar with that term.

Carnac: Bad? Your punchlines, for example.

Ed: No, no, your Magnificence. Before you curse me with any fleas, the envelope?

Carnac: What Am I?

Yeah, and then the 7th, which counts the same as any other inning.

Would it still be a good performance if the 7th inning happened in the 1st inning instead, but otherwise the same pitching line, 11 baserunners in 6.2 innings?

Or is it like those fitness tests in grade school, you throw out your best time, and your worst time, and average the rest?

My point is, when you constantly put baserunners on, you are going to eventually get yourself in trouble, especially when you don't have a K pitch.

The 7th inning was bound to happen.

It's not like he was dominating them all night, and 1 or 2 bad pitches doomed him. He was flirting with disaster, and it eventually bit him.

Psst. We know. But this is a game thread. You've not picking up on the cues.

Because it was Jokes about Women Night for me... I promise to have a Jokes about Men night later for balance.

Good evening Mr. Brooks.

I am not sure if you know it, but the Twins Game thread is a group grief therapy session.

When we are in session we need to find the good within Twins baseball. There are a lot of PTSD survivors participating here, and when they deem the game is over... it is over.

Together, us game thread participants are doing important soul healing work here. Please respect this fact and always know that when you need a shoulder to cry on... we'll be there for you.

Admittedly, I am suffering from diminished expectations regarding the Twins starters, but 6.1 shutout innings on the road against a top opponent seems good to me. Not great, but good.

The 7th inning counts the same, but if a starter can pitch a shutout for 6 innings then if the relief staff does a good job, the team should win. However, if the runs score in the first inning, bringing in a reliever puts a huge burden on the bullpen.

I said same pitching line. In other words, the disaster happens in the 1st instead of the 7th, but he still ends up going 6.2 innings.

To quote Ash, who may have been quoting me, may I remind you of the first rule of holes?

I get what you are saying, but appreciate the focus and effort that he put in tonight to hold off the Tigers for 6.1 innings. That seems like a notable accomplishment considering his lack of stuff.

It's sad how far this Twins organization has lowered the bar.

You guys realize this is still a MLB team right?

It's sad that it's come to the point that we have to say "well he played pretty good, for a Twins player!"

Sorry if that's not good enough for me.

Overspend and bring in some real major league baseball players, not a bunch of guys who we have to commend for keeping the opponent from 10 running us.

That's the icing on the cake/foreign sweat on my face after a couch dance at a raunchy strip club on the outskirts of town.

See, this is what I like about living near Reno. These kind of outskirts are *in* town.

And one more thing, Mr. Correia, when you have a guy down 0-2 throw some junk up there, there is no need to pitch to contact in an 0-2 count. I know its hard to believe, but sometimes a guy will swing at something out of the zone in that spot.
