Yes but none are above AA yet.  Diaw has a real shot at being in AAA next year and being the first real depth option. He has 685 career at bats combined in minor league (due to injuries that is a really small number).    You have Tait at A+ and then Lackey and Tinney currently at A ball.   They are all a year away.  Jackson is our only MLB quality depth catcher in the system.  Otherwise in AAA you currently have major defensive and offensive questions.   Jackson is an average to plus defender with what has been an above average bat for the last 2 seasons in 160 mlb at bats.   The under the hood statistics looks pretty good.   Cardenas has .164/.318/.615.   Olivar is on the 60 day injured list.  Banuelas has .206/.269/.643,   Needless to say its ugly in AAA right now.

I am encouraged by Roden’s quality of contact and approach at the plate. He has 8 strikeouts and 7 walks showing good plate discipline. His xwOBA of .332 is very good and is a much better predictor of the remainder of the year than his wOBA. I sure hope that the Twins front office knows that Roden’s slash stats are of no value at this sample in predicting how he will help the team the rest of the season.

@ashbury pushed me on his bad luck. He had a game in Cleveland where he reached based 5 times. Three of those times were ruled errors by the Cleveland scorekeeper. One was a clear hit. Another probably is a hit with several scorekeepers. He also had a walk off single that could have been a triple but with a runner on third he only needed to get to first. That was to help them beat the Guardians also. That bad luck has been with the scorekeepers and his own stat line but not with the scoreboard. He is 6th on the Twins in WPA.

When Buxton returns they need to send out an outfielder or catcher. The catchers don’t have options. Martin and Roden do. Both are taking good at bats and have value to this team. Neither deserves to go down but this is a good problem.

That triple was 2 feet from being a home run as well to the right field bleachers.  That ball was crushed.  Yes he has had 2 hits that have been coded as errors that I felt were hits as well.  He seems much more confident this go around and is producing in more clutch moments.

I am sorry Kreidler is not a starting shortstop in the major leagues, a utility guy yes.  Even the Twins wouldn't start him there until Gray became unplayable.

So when you said that the Twins had "no depth" at catcher in the minor leagues, you just meant at AAA.

your words were MLB depth in the minors.  I guess you can take that two different ways.  And if details matter, you have to write clearly what you mean.

And I read earlier today that this season is not going to be (And I' to any book in the series.  That could be good or bad.  (And I have always thought that casting Tom Cruise as Reacher in the movie was worthy of a death sentence penalty.)

1. Did you even read the paragraph you took that sentence from? The intention was clear we have no one capable in the minor leagues and if we DFA’d Jackson and Jeffers or Caratini got hurt we would be in break glass situation.  Not in regards to the future legit catching prospects we have in the lower minor levels. 

 

2. This reacher season is based on the book Gone Tomorrow - I agree casting Tom Cruise was one of the silliest casting choices.  Did they even read the books?

I did read the paragraph.  As a person who was employed for years as a book editor, my opinion was the your intent may not have matched the words you chose.  You were saying that if they lose Jackson, the Twins have no one in the minors to call up.  And then you said the Twins have no MLB depth in the minors.  Personally, I thought your intention was not clear.  There clearly is depth in the minors, just not someone you can call up right now.  But you would only have to call up someone if Jeffers or Caratini got hurt.  Then the Twins call up anyone they want to be the bench-sitting backup catcher.  Hell, if my knees would let me, I could be the 13th player that sits on the end of the bench.

My interpretation was you misstated what I had said initially stating “no catching depth.” I felt you were a bit snarky initially hence why I kept dishing it back, plus I am really excited for the season so felt it was appropriate to use the meme. If I offended I apologize.  As to Jackson I just people really underestimate 1. Keeping him as depth for this season because we have no other viable depth and 2. The cost that would be necessary to replace next year.
