The Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms with top international prospect, Venezuelan catcher Luis Medina, who is slated to sign for a $2.7 million bonus.  A standout from the JV1 Academy in Maracay, Venezuela, he is highly regarded for his strong arm and raw tools.

The Twins have worked to improve the results from their Latin America signings but it is difficult to project teenagers. Always good to see a kid with promise join our organization.

They've been prioritizing catchers for a year now.

Catchers have seemed to be good value in the international market.  The position in a little over a year and half will have gone from barren to nearly fully stocked with good prospects at every level.  Quite the change.

Because no one has ever traded  a player before.  I consider the international leagues a total crap shoot.

Virtually every list of international kids who are signing at 15 or 16 (or 13 in some cases) includes zero pitchers. All of these kids are too young and wouldn't have been stuck just pitching still at this point.

I want to believe we have some kind of diabolical plan to horde catching assets for trade.  Like Moneyball but for the short, pudgy dudes behind the plate.
