darin617 Verified Member Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Luis Garcia has been terrible for the Twins and Matt Bowman exercised his opt out and has to be added to the active roster by Wednesday. Bowman has been impressive for the Saints and the way the bullpen has pitched the Twins need all the help they can get. At worst if Bowman flops in the majors the can keep claiming DFA players and hope to find a serviceable arm. thelanges5, Twins_Fan_in_NJ, Linus and 1 other 4
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Veteran guys like Bowman and Arcia put up good numbers at AAA, but then can’t do it in the big leagues. Somebody will probably give Bowman a chance and I guess the Twins should be Team #1 to consider giving him a chance, particularly given the bullpen’s struggles. MN Brian 1
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I am not as sure about Bowman. His ERA looks nice but it is 21 innings that are influenced by a low home run rate that needs a large sample and a high LOB rate. His swinging strike rate is 7.1% which is lower than his career major league average of 8.6%. A veteran ought to be able to fool AAA hitters more often. Marco Raya is on the opposite end of the “luck” numbers with a high home run rate and a low LOB rate. His swinging strike rate is 13.8%. I am not saying he is ready. Laweryson had his first rehab appearance yesterday. I think he is up by Friday. If they call up Bowman now he won’t be the one they send down Friday. I fear he would get a longer run.
Twins_Fan_in_NJ Verified Member Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Brebbia also exercised his out clause. Neither he nor Bowman are going to flip the script for the bullpen but I've seen enough of Garcia and Topa. HarmonK03 and thelanges5 2

Would you rather see Garcia & Lewis continue to struggle or give some veterans a shot. With payroll limitations they Sadly have to dumpster dive and hope to find a diamond in the rough. It would also give them a chance to hope to fix Lewis.
