Twins add Andrew Chafin on a minor league deal

Chafin pitched for the Nationals and Angels last year with a 2.41 ERA but worse peripherals.

Interesting. They obviously have several lefties for the pen. I wonder if they will keep the vets and deal Funderburk or if this is just cheap insurance against injuries.

I assume they will carry eight relievers, so in theory they could have Funderburk, Banda, Rogers, and Chafin all on the roster. I think that's unlikely, but not the craziest roster management I've seen. No way they part with Funderburk.

Will they carry all four (lefty) guys if they're healthy? I thought that Funderburk earned a spot with his performance late last year. Rogers and Banda are locks and Chafin has been around a long time and mostly been effective.

I'm too lazy to look but I wonder if any of the lefties have splits which indicate they're equally effective against right handed hitters.

A quick glance shows that Funderburk had the most neutral splits in 2025, but that Chafin in his career has the most neutral and lowest OPS splits.
