Shaw is coming off back to back productive seasons, and last year his bat improved to wRC+ 106 OPS .737.

He didn't have a good spot in the lineup last year with Swanson and Hoerner both hitting nearly 700 PA (note to Twins, you don't need 2-3 days off a week to remain productive).

Shaw is probably a 3 WAR full season player at 2B at this point and he's pre-arb. That's going to be a very expensive target. I don't know what the Twins can dangle on that that the Cubs want. Maybe Marek Houston.

Kind of intriguing. He's fast, can play second, third and the outfield and about a league average hitter and will turn 25 in a couple of weeks. As an outfielder, he looks like a slightly better version of Austin Martin, but I'd only want to trade for him if he can become a regular on the infield (second base, with Clemens becoming the primary first baseman). The biggest drawback would be adding an infielder who isn't a shortstop, unless the Twins would be comfortable with moving Lee back to short as their backup (don't like that) or keeping Kreidler at the expense of Lewis.

Yes, the Cubs want to trade Matt Shaw.

No, the Twins do not want him.

Would you say the Twins don't want him more for the potential talent or team fit, or the clubhouse fit, or maybe both?

Same reason the Cubs tried to get rid of him.

Baseball players spend a ton of time together. They don't need to necessarily like each other but there are lines.

I'll let others decide. It is ok for us, as fans, to disagree wildly. We don't know each other and never meet. So there are going to be folks who think it is ok to roster a Matt Shaw or a Trevor Bauer (their cases are totally different), but others take the hard no position. It's just a baseball site and we have zero say in the end decisions.

I like Shaw as a target....I'm just not sure what we have to give up that the Cubs would want.  It'd probably be a Lopez for Shaw type of deal.

This thread was bumped because there was a rumor (just a rumor) that the Cubs could send Shaw and two pitching prospects for Joe Ryan this offseason. I was mostly curious if Shaw would be a good fit as a 2B here. If he is just a backup/utility I don't know that I'd want him as a headliner for Ryan.

The guy hit in the minors, there is no doubt he has some skill.  I don't know what a one year rental of Joe Ryan has for value but Shaw and two prospects doesn't seem far off to me.

I'd probably, strongly, consider that.  The biggest question I have is with 3B being his primary defensive position in the minors, what does he look like at 2B where the games played is a much smaller sample.
