Really great news if he's back. I could also see him doing the Vikings a solid by signing and then taking a HC job. That would land us an additional third round pick, I believe.

Correct. If he bolts for a HC job now we will get a 3rd round pick in 2026 and 2027

That sounds like McCarthy's job.  I think we have B-Flo back...thank goodness.

I have no idea why Pittsburgh would choose a 62 year old who is most certainly behind the times as an offensive HC. But oh well, not my favorite team to be concerned about it.

If Pittsburgh doesn't choose Flores as HC, I'm gonna guess their guy is Rams DC Chris Shula

I was reading some Pittsburgh fan forums and I'm really surprised how many don't want Flores.

That would be cool, but I'd think if Flores got a HC job, he and the team would rather keep that pick regardless of his feelings towards the Vikings.

So that pick compensation likely makes him a less attractive candidate. He and his agent would know that, therefore, I suspect he already knows he's already out of the running for the Ravens and Steelers jobs.

Ryan Fitzgerald certainly wasn't flattering about Flores' demeanor. Even aside from the collusion issue, there are some warts. It does kind of sound like he's got a Mike Zimmer reputation. Zero chance he's anywhere near as unpleasant as Zimmer though. And I'm guessing Flores is a different guy than when he was in Miami. After all, he first learned how to coach from Bill Belichick. He's since moved on and seen both KOC and Tomlin command a team and in completely different ways.

Flores' best shot at a HC job has to be here in Minnesota. If KOC struggles for the next year or so but the defense shines, he'd have to be the favorite for the job.

The hiring team doesn't lose the pick.  It's a compensatory pick in a special category that's tacked on to the 32 compensatory picks they dole out each year for losing free agents.  So if there's no supplemental draft or penalties where a team is forfeiting a pick, then there would be more than 256 picks in the draft.  In other words, it's a bonus pick created out of thin air.  The Steelers lose no picks if they hire Flores

That's right. I doubt he gets the job, but the silver lining is nice.

Exactly. If they did, that would actually discourage teams from hiring minority coaches.

It definitely seems like Flores has a Zimmer like reputation… I thought either one of Pittsburgh or Baltimore was a dream fit for him. Both organizations take immense pride in their defense, and both are very patient with their coaching staff.

And he already got a foot in the door with the Steelers as they scooped him up after Miami fired him. That job appears to be down to between him, McCarthy, or one of the two Rams assistant coaches.

I think it's even more than that....say what you want about Tua, but Flores has a reputation for how he dealt with a young QB.  If you have an uncertain situation (Pitt) or one with a guy that might have ran the last guy out of town (Lamar Jackson)....do you want to introduce Flores and his wild-card nature to that situation?

I'm happy to have Flo back, but he will likely never recover from his handling of that situation in Miami no matter how vindicated he may be.
