I was thinking about that conversation also. The take that stuck with me was how many conversations it took to make a deal. It was my take on that podcast that led me to my push today for focus on these deals. They have a high number of expiring contracts and getting the best they can on those six would be a great accomplishment.

They also need a catcher and those six alone seem unlikely to bring back that catcher.  Maybe they have a catcher they believe in that is not ranked in top 100s but can be acquired for one of these six. It could be that adding Larnach to a Coulombe deal might push to a catcher that they like. It could be that they need to deal Jax to get that catcher. I don’t think Larnach on his own will get that catcher. I suppose he might be worth Luis Campusano if the Twins felt they could get the talent out of the one time top catching prospect.

I would put all of the energy into trading the six and I will add the focus of acquiring a catcher. Duran and Ryan were not in the top 100 and were acquired in deals for players with expiring contracts. The clock is ticking in those six assets. The others can be dealt in the future.

great points! I generally agree, btw, that they should concentrate on the expiring deals. More likely do the others only if others call them first......there are more bidders for all the players they control in the off season anyway....

Seattle as well has Harry Ford who will be blocked for the foreseeable future by Big Dumper. Seattle always needs bats.

There are opportunities out there… My priorities align with yours. I’m targeting C who have already debuted in MLB or could immediately be added to the 26 man roster if they’re blocked by someone else. I have little to no interest trading players with control beyond this year for A+ ball or lower talent.

Even before acquiring Josh Naylor, the Seattle Mariners ranked second in the American League with a team OPS+ of 115 but 12th in the league with a team ERA+ of 94:

What does this even mean? So the young stud prospects have to compete with guys that have already proven they aren't full time players? Isn't that what the prospects are doing in the minors, competing proving they are MLB players? Besides Jenkins if these guys below aren't given/earned a spot before the 27 season they are just another group of older prospects that aren't likely to be difference makers, As for Jenkins he has been a top, top prospect for a while now, the type of prospect that other teams get up and play to see if they are the real deal. Larnach, Martin, Julien, Miranda are now really just in case of emergency type players taking up 40 man spots, which as of today isn't a big deal because there are worse guys on the 40 then them, which is a real bad sign of this FO.

The Twins top 4 rated prospects are: Per MLB
Jenkins (13th) (AA) turns 21 next February
Erod (41st)(AAA) turns 23 next February
Keaschall(43rd) (MLB/AAA) turns 23 next month
Culpepper (86th) (AA) turns 23 in December

If they are young studs they shouldn't have any issues out-performing average to below average MLB players.

Remember when larnach was on a tear then Baldelli made sure to make a stop to that? Seems like every time a Twin gets hot his constant need to platoon gets them cold.

Just because a player has "made it" to the big leagues, that shouldn't mean that their development and the "fixing" of their weaknesses should stop.  That is what the coaches at the MLB level are PAID TO DO.

Every member of a team should be able to lay down a bunt.

Every member of a team should be able to steal a base and/or take an extra base.

Every MLB pitcher should be able to field their position AND make an accurate throw to ANY BASE.

Rather than Larnach, the Twins should send Wallner to the Phillies for Kepler.

He does not like it there (there is talk of a trade) and it shows; he shows the -  I did not really want to  leave stats. that Polanco showed the first year he was in Seattle.

Now that they have a surplus of lefthanded outfielders at least within shouting distance of the main roster, trades for Larnach and/or Wallner need to be considered this offseason.  My preference would be for the more expensive Larnach to go, but Wallner could've been the position player version of Varland (pre-arb, but netting a real return) if he hadn't fallen off a cliff for the better part of this year.  Now it would be selling low.  But someone needs to move to balance out the roster a bit
