Trading Castro right now shouldn't even be a topic. He's not a pricey player. 6mil. He's one of our most needed players at this point. I'm not sure how the narrative we were given by ownership went from we're not cutting payroll this season to on here that we need to cut payroll. Keep Castro, we need him. If we're 10 GB in late July and Castro is having a solid season that is the time to explore a deal. Not now.

I agree. Build a team to contend. Sell at the all star break if it does not work out.

Exactly. I'm not against a trade or two, though Castro is personally lower on my list of candidates. But any trade off of our core group of players, which right now Castro is, should be legitimate trades to improve the 2025 Twins. No salary dumps. This team is not strapped for cash.

Castro - Jeffers - Lopez to Arizona for Moreno (C) & Jordan Montgomery. AZ pays $12M of Montgomery’s salary and AZ owner is rid of him. Twins youthful pitchers take up slack in rotation in ‘26 when Montgomery leaves. New ownership and a new approach for ‘26.

Twins shed $31M in salary in this trade. Rotation stays competitive in ‘25. They spend $12.8M on the aquired players. They get a very solid young catcher with team control. Net salary gain to be spent on a real BAT is $18M!

Trade Duran and (AA or C. Lewis from AAA) young starter for Tristan Casas at 1B - with Boston.

Solid Catcher - Solid 1B - $$ to spend on a new hitter as well. Jax is closer.

Paddack/Varland/Alcala/Sands/Topa/Stewart get the ball to Jax.

I wouldn't do that first trade in  a million years. Yikes.

I think I agree with this.

However, if they are NOT going to try to contend (say they deal Lopez or CC), then they should just deal everyone, including Castro.

Yes the Twins should go back to five to ten years before making post season or almost twenty years before winning a post season game.

Sell now and worry later.

Castro is definitely a tradable asset he was an all star in 2024, and very versatile.  His value should be alot higher than one might think even going into a contract year.   As any team to aquire him could sign him to an extension rightaway that still could be less than any free agent that would of the same level.

I don’t see many teams where his versatility plays as well as it does for the Twins

That's actually a very good point. Most Twins fans are thrilled with Castro, mainly because of that versatility, but how much will other teams value that, or think he might be a starter?

One of the things that strikes me, or puzzles me, is how much people are making about his potential salary for next year. I realize that the Twins have a limited budget, but for what Castro brings to the team, his salary should not be considered any sort of  huge burden. He may be the most tradeable of the players on the current roster (factoring in his role with the team, and who could replace his innings, and what the Twins could get in return) but I think we should seriously think about keeping him for another season at least. Maybe he'll never make another All-Star team, but I like his speed and versatility and hustle.

I don’t think Castro is a bad trade candidate but I wouldn’t trade him to just dump salary.

Of you can get a helpful piece to help I’m 25 or a good future piece sure.

Castro brings a lot of value in versitility, the Twins dont utilize his best position much and his best asset in the SB. He was clearly hurt the second half of the yr and grinder it out.

I think teams could view him as a starting 2B with options to move around the diamond as needed.

1 yr 6.5 million isn’t a bad # even for the twins.

Couldn’t they just not tender him and save all his salary?

Yeah and you get nothing for him when you could get something.

I think you try to catch Toronto trying to bolster their roster for one final run with Bichette and Vlad. You package Castro and Paddack to Toronto for Jake Bloss and Kendry Rojas. Two prospects who the twins can work with and contribute this year. Maybe a stretch but that’s my offer to get things rolling. Offers salary relief but still guys who can contribute day one possibly.

I think you need to find a team who needs a 2B or a left fielder. That’s the matchup. I think you could lure Toronto and the Yankees into a trade here. Maybe Houston as well if you can sell him as a LF.
