We all know how Acalas season has been better then then the previous few. But it feels like he has a good start one day then the next blows it up. One good example is yesterday how he gave up 5 earned runs and ruined Lopez's win and leading the twins to a loss when they could've swept. Acala A righty for the twins has a 3-3 record and a 3.08 ERA. And is arguably having his best season yet after coming off of a disastrous injury filled season. He also has 48 K wich is pretty decent for a reliever. But he has had a few horandous appearances. But some good starts Jorge_Alcal%C3%A1_(8313681)_(cropped).jpso that goes to show how inconsistent Jore alcala is.

And there appears to be a cause to his blow up as he had pitched 3 of the previous 4 games, and since that night he’s gotten some rest

I'm sure it was a difficult decision by Baldelli to even consider using him that night and it couldn't have gone worse. This is the clearest cut example of ownership and, to a lesser extent the front office, failing the team at the deadline. A manager dealing with injuries on a contending team should not be given Trevor-effing-Richards and told "make it work".

The bigger issue is that the supply just isn't there. Richards, as uninspiring as he is, is better than most of who they have at St Paul. Maybe they should have tried to dance with some of these trades, but who?

Tanner Scott obviously, but outside him, who moved that would really be a clear upgrade? Carlos Estevez, Lucas Sims, Lucas Erceg, Kopech? The list is not deep with definite impact arms. Would you really want to move a prospect for a reliever? It's always risky.

Matt Capps was actually good for the Twins. Yet that trade is (rightly) looked at with derision because Wilson Ramos had a workmanlike career.

AJ Puk. Any of the four RHers you mentioned. Kopech in particular was an obvious target. He's now throwing 100 MPH aspirin tablets for the Dodgers.

Effing do SOMEthing. Other teams made improvements.

The pearl clutching over "prospects" is nauseating. I read every year how expensive the trades were, yet there are the same teams, year after year, winning. Do you think the Astros really care about the prospects they trade away as they reach yet another postseason?
