Rik19753 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 What does this mean for the Guardians? Do they have anyone to play SS? If they are handing over the reigns to Gabriel Arias and his .590 OPS they are basically throwing in the towel.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 They have three SS prospects. They want to see who can play. It's a strategy I endorse, and what the Twins should have been doing with Gallo and Wallner.... Not to mention Lee, Severino, or Prato at third when Lewis went down. Hosken Bombo Disco and RpR 1 1

Now I think I like the trade even better from the Twins' standpoint! But really, this move is very head-scratching to me. As Mike mentioned, I get the fact that they are trying to create playing time for their prospects at SS. However, by acquiring Syndergaard, it seems they are now taking away playing time from their pitching prospects (who have largely been pitching very well). FlyingFinn 1
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Dodgers are paying the remainder of Noah's contract. So LA made out like bandits if Rosario can get it tohgether and they could re-sign him if he does. Both are FA's after the season.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 This is a very interesting trade. This is not Cleveland throwing in the towel. I’m a big believer in change of scene making a difference for pitchers, and Cleveland is obviously hoping Syndergaard can find some former glory. He will definitely get his chances. My guess is Cleveland will go with Tyler Freeman at short, a prospect who is waiting to graduate and get regular playing time. Cleveland probably gets better both offensively and defensively, just by playing Freeman or someone else over Rosario. In fact I just dug up a Fangraphs article from earlier today advocating this very thing, that Cleveland should move on from Rosario. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-2023-replacement-level-killers-shortstop-and-third-base/ Mike Sixel 1
