Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 If teams were aligned with their expected win-loss records, the Twins would be in... second place... in the AL East. What?
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 I guess that's why they play the game? That's crazy.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 4, 2023 Author Posted July 4, 2023 And before anyone mouth-breathes on this topic, this isn't meant to show the Twins are the second-best team in the AL East. It's just an interesting observation.

tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 I look at most statistics as just numbers available to support any argument or discussion. The data is always worth a look and somewhat interesting, but don't be that guy who misses a play because you are checking on the latest analytics. The game is still played on a field and one team wins, another loses.

Last year we had it all the way until we didn't. Whoever is hotter after the all-star break wins it, and then anything can happen in the playoffs right? This year we have quality starting pitching for a playoff run if we can get there.

Last year we had Zero options most of the last 4 months with available players…….last 2 months was a joke. As of today Varland is working on things at AAA and we have a trio or so of guys that will get removed from the roster by September 1 because we’ll have better options. Buxton has to be hitting the ball as hard and as often as anyone in the game for the past handful of games. CC went 4-5 last night behind a couple other decent days at the plate. Kepler & Gallo have both contributed (Kepler w/glove twice!) since they left Atlanta. Kirilloff remains steady. Things are shifting a bit in the right direction with the right/key guys! I was a “Buxton to IL & DFA at least one of the 2 (Kepler/Gallo)” a week ago. 162 games takes patience.

That's definitely a big part of it but the Twins have been exceptionally bad at sequencing. Their BaseRuns record is even better - it's fourth in all of MLB - and one of the "unluckiest" in baseball. They're drubbing teams regularly but that's coupled with just miserable plate appearances in critical situations everywhere else. https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=BaseRuns
