Will the real Mike Pelfrey please stand up.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm glad he sat down instead.

Slow day in TD-land.

Hey, they scrapped out two runs. The lineup is spent and needs a break for at least two innings.

Arcia's two-run HR will put us ahead now

Slow day in TD-land.

Pretty hard to get too fired up about a fourth place team playing a fifth place team on one of the first truly nice days we've seen in Minnesota this year.

Plus, it's a home game. Some users are probably in the stands.

That remind me of yesterday's TV broadcast...

Dick: "Joe Mauer leading the world in doubles, with 15. Justin 2nd on the team with 11........ actually Mike Napoli leads the league with 17"

I get the feeling Dick doesn't pay attention to baseball outside of his PBP duties.

Jeff F'ing Keppinger. Eduardo F'ing Escobar.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot, Brian F'ing Duensing, for giving up an 0-2 hit, to a left handed hitter no less, to create that whole mess.

You can't hope to shut down Adam Dunn, all you can do is hope to contain him.

Whatever you do, don't walk Adam Dunn, 'cause he's a strikeout machine...

That's what happens when you have a pitch to contact staff versus a "hope I make contact" HR hitter... 3 HR in the series with a 4th one brought back into the park.

Don't forget that thing called "work". Pesky thing on days like today.

This week Dunn has hit three homers left center, another to center that Hicks pulled back and a double to left center. Is it time to give up on pinging the outside corner with him? Last year at TF Blackburn tried the same thing and Dunn hit one off the 2nd deck fascia above the bullpen. Can he get those long arms and that huge bat around in time to hit a pitch on the inside? I don't know but maybe it is worth a shot. Why keep doing the same thing when it is not working?! Maybe we should engage in a land war in Asia while we are at it because that has also shown to be successful. This is killing me.

So, Dunn isn't drawing walks anymore, but he's still hitting HRs and striking out. In other words, there isn't any reason left to throw him a strike.

In Dunn's at bats he either hits a home run, strikes out or walks. The Twins pitchers don't walk anyone nor do they strike them out. It doesn't take an expert to figure out the likely outcome.

Also see Jim Thome vs. Twins pitchers.

Yup. Didn't realize it, but it looks like his ISO and BB% have cratered at about the same-ish rate from last year. Still, it doesn't seem like excessive hindsight to wonder why the bleeeep you pitch to him with two outs and Konerko scuffling, especially the first situation with first open behind Rios.

If a pitcher needed a tie breaker on whether to pitch to Dunn or around him, maybe it would be the fact that he's so slow that it usually takes what would normally be a double from a hitter behind him to move Dunn from 1st to 2nd...

This or at least don't throw it in a spot where he has murdered the ball all week. Its almost like giving up. Watching the same mistake happen over and over is very frustrating.

Agreed, and that's a good argument for the Twins "experts" not to roll the dice on avoiding Outcome #1 when their pitchers face TTO hitters.

On second thought, maybe it's a better argument for the Twins to try a little harder to find pitchers who can generate Outcome #2.
