What Would it Take To Sign Correa?

Now that Carlos has officially opted out......what's it going to take to sign him long term?

If you were the Twins what would you offer AND do you think that would be enough for him to come back and sign here.  Also, do YOU want him back in a Twins uniform?

I personally would love to see him back and would offer him the following:

2023 - $35M
2024 - $35M
2025 - $29M
2026 - $29M
2027 - $29M
2028 - $26M w/player opt out
2029 - $26M w/player opt out.

7 year deal worth $209M with the double opt out.  It keeps the money up front the first two years, gives the 2 early opt out years if Carlos went searching after another long term payday.  The 8 year, $244M total contract time with the Twins would be $2M AAV less than Seagar got with the Rangers last season, but the opts give him the power to make more in the long run with terminating the deal after 6 total years.

Unless a team is willing to give Carlos 10 years. which I think would be foolish (but not out of the realm of possibility), I think the proposal would have at least be in the ballpark somewhere.

I'd really love to keep him, but I'd bet the ranch that he's gone. No way that Rob, Chip, and Ernie pony up the dough to keep him. Some other team will back the Brinks truck up to his house. CC can say that he loves it here, loves the culture, loves Baldelli,  and all that other jazz, but we all know money talks.

I think you'd need to be at 32.5 over 7 and opt out would be after year 2.  Why would be want opt outs as a 34/35 year old shortstop?

Why?    I don't want him.   Too expensive!   Wish the OPT-out clauses should not have happen!

Agents and most players are way overpriced and greedy!

I'd offer him 7/246. Tops Rendon for the highest AAV while saving the Twins from paying those last 3 years. I don't think he'd take it right now, though.

I think his starting point is 10/325 and he has every expectation of getting it. Boras is really good at what he does and I don't know why we'd expect to get him for anything less than the Seager deal.

Is it “official”? I thought it was after the World Series?

The opt outs would be for his 32 and 33 year old season.  A big year at age 31 could earn him a bigger payday than 26M - 26M in my proposed deal.  I don't like an opt out after year 2, it gives him too much control.  After year 4 could be interesting though.
