Maeda

My apologies if this has been brought up in other discussions. I know it's been announced that Maeda will start the season on the 60 Day IL. Since then I haven't heard much about his recovery/rehab process. Anybody else have any updates. Just curious.

Since no one has answered, I’ll step in (gingerly). I read somewhere that Maeda was playing catch at 30 feet with no issues arising. The report also said that a return in September of this year was possible, but not certain. This is from memory, without finding the report I read, so consider with appropriate caution.

Thank you for the info! I mean no news is . . . well, my fingers are crossed. I was just curious since we haven't heard much lately.

I would think there are really only two likely scenarios where Maeda plays this year. The Twins are securely in a playoff position and his veteran addition to the rotation is going to be viewed as akin to a late season trade.

Or the young arms and low cost vets have so thoroughly failed that the team has no choice but to rely on his surgically repaired elbow to eat up innings.

A 6 man rotation in September to manage innings with Ober and Ryan is a third possibility

I read a while back that they would likely use him out of the pen if he pitched this year.

I think the best hope for this year is a bullpen piece in September. If the Twins are in the hunt he could be helpful.
