Latest on weather and Mets series from Twins

Just got this email. I heard similar things last night. The makeup date for any cancelled games might need to be a sungle day in August. Thus, the motivation to make these work:

Friday, April 12 – Mets @ Twins

As always, we will make every effort to play the game as scheduled and we currently plan to play on Friday night. Any decision to postpone the game won't be made until sometime Friday. Since this is the only visit by the Mets this year, it is important that we play the game if at all possible especially considering that the weekend forecast (Sunday) is also questionable.

Snow removal at Target Field

Crews are currently shoveling snow in the stands to the stair aisles where we are melting it with hot water. If the snow becomes too heavy in the seating areas to melt, we will use snow removal chutes to dump the snow onto the warning track and haul it out of the ballpark. The field heat is on and will hopefully melt snow on the playing field. The grounds crew are currently clearing the plaza, promenade and pedestrian areas.

As always, plans can change, but that is where we are currently at. Please let me know if you have any questions.

It'll be 80-ish and sunny all weekend in Tucson. Hi Corbett and TEP are both available, I think...

You must live in a retirement home down there...

Do they really think it is necessary to clear the outfield seats? Just the let the couple thousand or so that show up on Friday, pick out a nice spot in the infield and enjoy the game.

Or hand them all a Twins uniform, a bat and a glove. They couldn't be any worse than the collection of guys in Twins uniforms with bats and gloves were down in KC.

What is the weather forecast actually supposed to be like? Will the bulk of the snow have fallen by Friday and they just need to keep it cleared off or what?

They should probably play Friday with whatever flurries are still happening, because they aren't going to want to play Sunday in the steady rain/freezing rain/snow.

They should also start considering the game on the 4/17 against the Angels, too, since that is the only time they come to town this year as well. If the weather models hold (no sure thing 6 days out), that will be an inch or two of snow during game time as well, on top of another inch or two during the day on 4/17 prior to game time. Day/night doubleheader on 4/16 might be better.

Yay, I can't wait to go up to Minnesota this weekend to watch them lose in 10 degree weather! Perhaps the Wild game is a better option at this point...

Has a double header ever been scheduled where the second game of the two gets moved up to the sooner date?

Probably not. But if they have an option to play in cool and dry vs cool and snow, then I think they should consider it. Not that they will. Just my thought. But again, that's 6 days out. The weather models can't be fully trusted at that timeframe.

I'm just thinking ahead, especially if (I think when) Sunday's game doesn't happen.

I admit it does sound a bit ridiculous, and would only really be useful to avoid something like an impending snow storm, tropical storm, hurricane, etc. Just got me to thinking out loud.

Just in case the Twins take my suggestion and move these games to Tucson, I have room at my house for a couple TDers to stay, gratis. I'll even smoke a prime rib for dinner. Everyone welcome. Except Snepp.

And this after I was going to invite you to inflatable sumo wrestling here.

Everything about your offer sounds great, except that I would have to set foot in Tucson.

Quick notes on the upcoming series with the Mets:

For an extra $15 the Twins are letting fans come in to Target Field early and shovel.

The MLB is looking into staging a Winter Classic type event at Target Field based on the popularity of the NHL version.

The Twins have stated that on games days with temps in the 40s (or below) there still are no plans to sell hot beverages at more than 3 concession stands.

Great night for a ballgame!

Sunday looks even more likely that they won't play.

4/17's system is pushing farther south, so the Angels' series seems to be less in danger of snow. Just flurries. Take that, L.A. Angels.

For an organization that takes pride in the "greenness" of the Field, I'd think running hot water over that much space might not be so environmentally friendly compared to people shoveling.....I mean, in GB, fans go shovel for free, just for the pleasure of it.....

How couldn't it not be more environmentally friendly? I'm sure the hot water used to melt the snow comes from the stadium's water collection system and that water and the melted snow will go right back into it.

We just found out what 6 inches of snow looks like this time of year, I'm pretty sure they can play through a steady snowfall of an inch or 2. Snow in April is not much different from rain in April.

The Twins have officially announced that there is no Twins/Mets game today.

If you have tickets, you can get in to the August 19th game (rescheduled date) or use the ticket as a voucher for future games.

That's why they're in Green Bay - they don't know any better.:)

Mets are probably disappointed that today's game was cancelled ... .just in case the Twins turn into a real ball club before August.

If the last two years are any indication we'll somehow be even worse by that time.
