Oakland as a Trading Partner

Over on Major League Trade rumors, there was talk about how the Oakland A's are finding themselves heading into a lot of Arbitration Choices for the coming season, some maybe out of their price range.

Rotation arms like Manara, Bassitt, laureano, Montas. Plus bullpen arms like Trevino and Diekman, plus old Twins prospect Guerra could probably be had for the right mix of prospects.

Should the Twins try, would they pay $10 to Manara, $9 million to Bassitt. Something that could actually help the Twins go forward.

And what prospects in the system would be ripe for the grab by the A's, of guys already on the 40-man (think Arraez, maybe Kepler). Besides the A's, any other "expensive for a team" arbitration arms you can think of that the Twins should trade, negotiate longer term, or just wait to see if they enter free agency?

It is is a possibility but I would guess the cost would be heavy as like Tampa they like overpays to rebuild.

We could clear some roster spots. What about Dobnak, Moran, and Cave or Rooker? That is 3 inexpensive pieces they can put on their roster.

Montas and Laureano have been suspended for PED

Manaea and Bassit would be one year rentals. It would not cost current position players except those who have less than one year of experience. They are not going to take a Kepler contract.

Diekman has a 4 million team option for next year, which is what he is being paid this year. The other relievers are arb 1, no huge jump there.

You make a good point Rosterman.  I've been focused on a trade package that would bring sandy Alcantara (Marlins) to the Twins but either Manaea or Bassit, even as a possible one-year rental would be excellent acquisitions.  The Twins need some veteran arms to bridge the gap between 2022 and when the plethora of young arms start to populate their roster.  We may have 2-3 (maybe 4 guys) next season make a significant impact.  Ober, Ryan, and I'm not completely sure after that.  And each of these young arms will be "protected' by the Twins to not be over-used.  It always depends on WHAT you have to give up.  But Manaea and Bassit are quality pitchers.  (MUCH more dependable than the Happ's and Shoemaker's of the world).  Let's say we acquire Bassit and he has a good season in 2022.  Then it's up to the FO to try to convince him to stay.  You can NEVER have too much pitching.  Especially in the new era of MLB where pitchers suddenly combust into flames once they pass the magical 100-pitch level.
