I can't recommend the series of articles Kevin Goldstein is doing on Fangraphs enough. He was in a front office, and is posting about what it is really like. From the draft to trades to, well, everything.

Also, their draft coverage is free (though I highly recommend membership)...and excellent.

If you love this kind of content, I highly recommend Eric Longenhagen and Kiley McDaniel's book "Future Value". I'm working through it right now and it's a great read for anyone interest in scouting, the minors, the draft, etc.
