Interesting move... it was a bit early for Mond, but I like having a mobile backup who has a chance to develop into something instead of a deadweight in Mannion. I don't think he becomes a starting QB as he never improved much at Texas A&M.

Then why take him? They aren't winning with any backup....go get starters.

His stats dont support the notion he didnt improve.

That pick seemed like a reach. Surrant was a reach.

You mean Surratt? Yeah, I don't get how he goes over Jabril Cox and Baron Browning. Not a good pick there.

I admit I know nothing about Surrant and I think it was a poor value choice....but watching him pursue and run down people I see what they see as a future Will backer.

Yes...but I dont agree that Mond didnt improve. His stats over time show clear improvement in accuracy and turnovers.

There we go. Back on track with OG Wyatt Davis. Skol!

I hope we have a solid 5 by now. We’ve invested enough draft capital for me to be happy.

Darrisaw - Cleveland - Bradbury - Davis - O’Niell is an OL with more potential that we’ve seen in close to a decade. I’d say the excuses are done for Bradbury if he doesn’t take a big step forward in his career.

Jones II is a decent pick here, I would have preferred moving up into the 2nd round for Basham, but it is what it is. Love the Wyatt Davis selection. Just not sure what the heck they see in Surratt.

What are your thoughts on us taking the worse Pitt EDGE player per PFF? Weaver had the better scores.

Checked the boxes tonight. Time to get a WR and a DB. Shaun Wade, Melifonwu,or Jamar Johnson would be nice. I dig the SDSU WR. Khalil Herbert at RB would be nice too.

Was it just because Wade had a bad National Championship game for his slide? He was mocked as a borderline 1st round pick earlier this winter.

Overall I like night 2 as far as the positions they took. It would have been a cooler story to take Jabril Cox, former NDSU/LSU LB over who we took. We gave Andre Patterson another pass rusher to mold. It’s a nice luxury to have a rookie QB that’s not a UDFA as a potential succession plan. Love the pick of Davis. If he didn’t get hurt late in the year he would have been selected much higher.

Replace the QB with a S or CB, and it might have been the best round 3 in history....

From what I've seen, I think teams think he will play safety (he's too slow to play CB, maybe?), which is a pretty big value crusher. Don't know a lot else about him, though.

Here's what my board says:

Yeah, I can get why you'd like Weaver more. Both were fairly productive at Pittsburgh.

Yeah, it does look better after some more analysis. Here are some blurbs on Mond that I was basing my opinion from:

I know there are some higher on Monds (Chris Simms comes to mind), but I haven't been simply because I just don't see anything special - he's solid, but with him being a 4-yr starter I expected a bit more improvement, especially from his Jr yr to Sr yr since his Sr year was his third in Jimbo Fisher's pro-style offense. Some compare him to Dak Prescott, but Dak's compl % was the thing that stood out during his last year at Miss St - jumping from a high 50's/low 60's to 66.2% during his final season and you see that accuracy show up during his time in the NFL.

And this:

I'm still formulating my opinions, but I think I like it... I'm just so unused to the Vikings drafting a QB outside of the 1st round that I'm not sure how to think of this... it feels like a worthy gamble.

I've started to become a bit of a doubter on PFF, but even without that I think watching film of Dak and Mond should make people second guess their doubts.  Those two guys are ridiculously similar in how they ran the ball, their mechanics, and the way the ball comes out with a bit of a high trajectory.  Their stats are also ridiculously similar.  I think this Aggies blogger does a nice job weeding through the criticisms.

Mond is durable as hell and won some huge games last year as a QB.  That game with Florida is a testament to his big game chops.  He ran into more sacks than I'd like to see, but he even cleaned that up his last year.  And he did all that with a decimated bunch of playmakers.

You know how high I was on Hurts and I'm not there with Mond, but I like this kid a lot.  It could utterly flop and he's never anything mroe than a backup, but it's about time we had real potential in the backup spot.

Vikings have went RB Kene Nwangwu and CB/S Camryn Bynum with their first two 4ths. I don't get the Nwangwu pick, as he's a quick and speedy back who most had as a 6th/7th rounder. Seems to be mainly here for a return job, which is not something a 4th rounder should be spent on. Bynum was a bit too slow to play CB, but he was announced as a safety, and should help our DB depth.
