cardsfan Verified Member Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Nicholas Castellanos had 88 Xbh last season with the Tigers and Cubs. He only had a 2.7 WAR. Apparently his defense weighed down this total. What is he going to get in FA? You guys seen him play with the lowly Tigers. Looks like he can't steal bases. There are so many OFers out there would he be worth tying up your OF for years?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I like how he's a high average hitter with some good pop. He stopped playing 3B after 2017 and I'd like to know if he can still play there for positional flexibility. Gonna be 28 and in the prime of his career. Yeah, if the Twins had a need for an OF for the next 3-4 years I'd go after him.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Maybe he'll get Nelson Cruz money from some team wanting a reliable DH. I can't picture him as any better than "adequate" at first base, and he's proven himself a liability at other corner positions. He's an example of the plodding bat-only type that has traditionally made me root against teams like the Tigers and Brewers who stock up on them.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I'd be interested in swapping him for Cron should Castellanos be able to play 1B. Of course the problem there is that he's never played 1B.
Cody Pirkl Twins Daily Contributor Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 His defense is a serious problem. If you look at just about anything but fielding percentage, he's got absolutely no future in the outfield. If he could switch to 1B he would be incredibly valuable, but has never played there. I also think he would command at least a decent amount of money. Offense will be the very last think the front office is shelling money out for this season.
SomeGuy Verified Member Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I would pass, we are set at OF and DH. Boras client too, should be a nice long contract somewhere for the 28 year old.
old nurse Verified Member Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 He might be a good mid summer, post draft add for a half season if a half dozen players get injured
