These types of deals get done in the spring and if he shows up in shape and ready to play, I'd say it's time to open up the check book... 4/50ish might be on the low side, but probably a lot closer if 1B/DH is in his future. This! Sano is OK at 3B with the potential to be better. As was mentioned, and as I have preached tirelessly before, think Gaetti and Koskie early in their careers. He will probably move, eventually, but there is no reason for said mkve any time soon if his dedication is real. I agree 4/50 might be a little low. I like the 4/60 for both sides. Really, everyone wins. If Sano wants to bank on higher potential earnings vs potential loss, then that is on him. diehardtwinsfan 1
etwink Verified Member Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 (edited) Gardy wasn’t the manager when Ortiz was here. It was Kelly who had his issues with him. Nonetheless, I don’t think Ortiz’ time in MN is a good comp to Sano anyway. I don’t know what an extension would look like or if he’s earned that yet. If he’s here two more years, I think talk about it next season. Let’s see what he does this offseason and if he can play the whole year next year.Gardy was the mgr in 2002, Ortz’s last season in MN. Look it up.I agree that he isn’t a comp for Sano, which is why I made my comments in response to earlier comments about Ortiz. Looks like we agree after all! What would the OPS/wRC+ look like if he could bring the K% down 5%? 10%?It could mean more walks. It could mean there was a change from the all or nothing swing and thus more contact and less FB. . The approach that would net the most return is finding out what to change so he is not missing 1/3 of the season.
highlander Provisional Member Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Miguel is a big fella, with a big swing, that hits big flys, that travel big distances! I would prefer he hits them for the Twins. Nine of twelve 1
Platoon Verified Member Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Agreed. He's made tremendous strides over the last year getting his body in shape. As well as tweaking his swing 3 months ago. Before the team commits to him long term, I'd like to see him keep up the same habits. I wouldn't mind paying a higher price later on if he continues what he's been doing.Agree. I especially want to see what an off season after success does for (to) him. As for worth, if MLB ever goes back to using a baseball again his power will be more valuable. But I do doubt his ability to stay at third, his glove really is bad, and it just increases his injury potential.
Battle ur tail off Verified Member Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I think you have to at least feel it out this offseason. See where he's at as far as what he wants. This kind of guy on the open market in 2 years gets 20-25 million a year if he can keep up the production he has shown this season. Maybe I'm wrong but with the way he hits the ball, I see him as a super hot commodity if he makes it to free agency.
