Gibson for Carson Kelly?

Good catchers are hard to get, so I understand the interest in Kelly's potential.

But good starting pitchers are harder to get, and Gibson has become one.

So nope.

People should remember that Gibson is not 26 or 27....he's 31.  He'll be 32 by the end of next year.

That's not the kind of player you'll want to extend, so just burn this next year and a half?  Ok.  I guess I'd rather see if I can flip that into a player that can help for longer than that.

While I’m interested in what we could get in return for Gibby, I’d say hold off on that for now and focus on trading Odorizzi, Duke, and Lynn.

- Falvine was talking about acquiring controllable players at the deadline, so maybe we ship rentals like Lynn/Duke to Washington for left-handed reliever Sammy Solis (who isn’t a free agent until 2022).

- Also Billy Beane did say the A’s are buyers, so I’d say trade Odorizzi to Oakland for Frankie Montas.

Billy Beane trades you one of the guys in his major league rotation for... a starting pitcher? That's some kind of money ball, I guess.

Having a friendly debate with a few co-workers. Gibson for Kelly straight up. Who says no? They seem to think the Cards don't take the call. I feel Twins say no at this point. Thoughts?

I'd say no personally. Kelly has been all hype with no results. I don't have a problem including him in a deal... I might even target him, but I'd want more.

Despite Odorizzi being very inconsistent, excluding this year, Montas has been even worse. I actually think Beane would we willing to sell high on Montas because next year Oakland would have Sean Manea, Daniel Mengden, Jharel Cotton, Daniel Gosset, Kendall Graveman, and top prospect Jesus Luzardo all competing for their rotation, making Montas expendable, and a “veteran” like Odorizzi much needed, because right now they’re running out Edwin Jackson, Brett Anderson, and Trevor Cahill.

And if Beane really valued Montas, why did he option him back to AAA, despite pitching well? Maybe it’s because he see’s him as a trade chip to sell high on.

I dont see the Twins trading Gibson. I can see them trading either Lynn or Odorizzi to open a rotation spot for Romero and Santana. Slegers can go back down as well. Next season we will have:

Berrios

Romero

Gibson

As certainties with Thorp, Stewart, Gonsalves, Littell, Mejia, and Slegers available as 4th/5th starters.

Also we have no money committed and if Gibson is pitching like this at the allstar break next year he may be good for a 3 year 45 million extention....possibly even more.
