Ervin Santana gave up two runs on two hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked none. His next outing will likely be on Sunday for Rochester.

After the game, he spoke with a media member from Jacksonville:

With Aaron Slegers' short start on Tuesday night, is it possible that Santana could start instead of Slegers on Sunday?

Maybe there's a chance he gets 2-3 starts in Minnesota before the trade deadline.

Is he still sitting 88-90, hitting 91 a few times with his FB?

Just in time for the deadline.

Slegers does not belong in the majors.  His stuff is just not there.  I'd rather see them pitch Mejia who is out of options next season to see what's there...

I don't think he's going to be very effective if he can't hit 93-94 MPH. I don't know what he was hitting at Chattanooga, but if he's topping out at 90, he's not going to strike out many guys in the majors... I think it'd be better to give him some more time rehabbing and get Romero back in the rotation.

Thought I read he was 90-91 with some 92s. That's plenty of velocity if he's got control and command of his pitches.

Partially agree. I have seen enough from Slegers to think he could be a pretty good long/swing man for the pen. But I'd also much rather see Mejia out there!

IF Mejia proves he can't cut it in the rotation, I'd think his stuff could play up nicely in the pen.

Think I have to agree with you and spycake here.

I think he needs to make his Rochester start and we'll see how he looks. Might even need another to ramp it up. Then we can see how he looks for the Twins. A waiver wire trade after a few successful starts may be the optimum.

I like the guy and have loved watching him pitch. I'm rooting for him, trade value or not.

Some part of me keeps wondering though, back next year on a lower end deal with incentives? A 1 year for $7M? Possibly even in a milb deal if it takes longer than expected to really get it going? Just a thought.

Don't forget guys that moxy adds several miles per hour to every pitch.

And chutzpah!

But no spunk. I hate spunk.
