I'm not blaming the FO, it's only fair that they be given more time to build the system they want.  But you can't say they had a great offseason when the team go's backward's.  Seems like people want to give them credit when something positive happens and blame someone else when something negative happens.

 

Either they are in charge and accountable for the results or there not and we should have just kept Terry Ryan.

 

The Twins were 7th in all of baseball last year in runs scored, 4th in the AL. They added a guy who hit 38 home runs to DH.

 

With a young core of up and coming players, I don't think too many people expected the team would drop to 23rd in runs scored at this point.

 

I do suppose if they had foresight they would have traded Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Santana, Castro, Dozier, Polanco, and Mauer for better players. Yep, clearly their fault....

I am not down on the FO.  They plugged holes, added decent pitching and had to roll with the punches. All a FO can do is put players in position to succeed. They don't guarantee good play.  Sano's leg, Buck's toe, Erv's hand, Polanco's suspension, Castro's injury, man that is a lot to overcome for a team that barely made the WC last year. 

 

Molitor's managing.... his love for a mediocre Grossman and inexplicable going away from a red hot Lamarre coming out of spring training made no sense to me. Molly sat LaMarre until he cooled off.... in favor of Grossman, who never was hot and runs bases like a blind man. I don't understand ignoring MaGill when he was effective while burning out Press, Duke, Hildy and Rogers. 

 

Molly is as stubborn and plays favorites just as much as Gardy, and the playing favorites things was Gardy's downfall.

 

Aside from not  taking Molly to the manager woodshed, I don't have a problem with the FO. The jury is still out. But lets see how they handle the deadline moves.

The Twins made the Wild-card last season. Everybody agreed that their pitching needed a major boost, and the front office delivered. 

 

Hard to say Lynn, Odorizzi, Duke, Reed and Rodney are the root of the Twins problems this season. They've all been performing about where they were expected to.

 

Can't blame them or the front office when the offense does a 180 into the gutter.

Lynn and Rodney certainly played a role in digging an early season hole. 

 

I can't blame the FO for Buxton, Sano, Dozier, ect being miserable. They assembled what was supposed to be a better team around that group, but that doesn't mean they're immune to sharing blame for how the season has gone. It's already been pointed out that their FA signings were bargains, and at various times they've shown why. I think we can all agree that the lineups of late have been putrid. Injuries happen, of course, but a back up plan has to be in place.

 

Why not sign a 4th OFer before the season when it was clear the team desperately needed it? If they had such little faith in Garver (Wilson hogging innings would suggest so) then why wasn't a back up catching option addressed? These issues were constantly pointed out in threads. Instead they opted to bring in Morrison, who has been pathetic, but we should give the FO a pass because the guy had a career year last season? If we're crediting this FO with the WC run last year then they have to share the blame for how this season has gone. 

 

tl;dr The FO doesn't deserve the lion's share of the blame but the idea that they set this team up for serious contention and everybody else faltered just isn't true.

They are or soon to be out of options, given a lot of opportunity and they have not proven to be anything special.  Pressly will be 30 years old next season and has only one season with positive WPA out of the pen.  And teams will look at his K/9 and think that he has value

 

I mean, if you get a good offer, great, go for it.  I wouldn't give him away from peanuts.  He's never been the worst reliever in our bullpen.   I don't think you get rid of cheap guys who aren't at the lowest rung.

If any teams needs pitching, offer them Lynn and/or Rodney. At least those two might bring back a reasonable return of a young prospect or two. Otherwise, we ain't got much to offer anyone. Dozier has definitely seen his value plummet and I don't think it's even possible that the Twins would try and trade Mauer. Guys like Grossman would have zero value. And I don't think Santana would tempt anyone unless he came back ASAP and started throwing shutouts.
