Morneau turned around a high Zumaya fastball and essentially turned the tide of the division race. The Twins were still 10 games behind Detroit at this time but to me is the defining moment of that memorable season.

By far my most favorite year as a Twins fan (slightly too young to fully appreciate 87 and 91). And I remember that moment so well, drunk and high fiving with fellow hipsters in an Uptown bar.

What's even more crazy is the Twins ended the day 67-46 and were still 8.5 games back.  Those Tigers really slid being 76-38 as the Twins surged.

One of my favorite seasons.  September of 2009 was pretty sweet too.

Thanks for that.

Awesome nugget from awesome season, and

A reminder that no baseball season is over a week into August.

The Dodgers haven't won **** yet.

Still bums me out how pitching injuries killed the best team I can remember. Liriano going down and Radke pitching through both a torn labrum and a fractured shoulder.

2006 Twins were indeed a great team.

AL MVP

AL Batting Champ

AL Cy Young Award winner

Perennial Gold Glove CF who hit 31 home runs

a left fielder who hit 24 home runs

a backup catcher who hit .341

2007 is when Terry Ryan lost me. He replaced Radke with Ramon Ortiz and Sidney Ponson instead of getting a real pitcher. I suspect any other GM in MLB would have thought to get the pitching help this talented group needed to put them in the World Series. Not TR.

That was very sad.

I would guess that was most other nights that year.
