mudcat14 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I really like LaTroy on the Twins telecasts. He seems to stumble a bit on the prepared pre-game material, but his in-game comments and observations are insightful and entertaining. After having played for about every major-league team, don't be surprised if the MLB Network doesn't snatch him up in the future.
Doomtints Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Heard him a little bit. I don't think he is amazing, but he has a fresh perspective. Eventually his perspective will be as stale as any other, mind you.
drivlikejehu Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 He's new to it. I like him and think the Twins should keep him in the organization.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Honest question because I haven't watched: Is he great, or is he just light years better than Bert? Because outside of Cory Provus and the occasional bit we hear from Kris Atteberry, I do not care for any of the baseball broadcasters in this market. Bert has completely stopped trying. It's embarrassing.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Latroy is mellow, cool, and knows what he's talking about: him and Herb Carneal would have been the perfect sub-baseball rap - Torii sounds like a cheerleader in comparison, but he has his moments as well. 1042 games, 10th all-time in MLB: we are spoiled in this organization.... I'll bet Cuddy would be a fantastic commentator as well.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I like LaTroy. He's rough around the edges but the fact he played in the modern era means he actually has insight into today's game, not the game played in the 70s and 80s. That in itself means he's an easier listen than Bert. There's no excuse for Bert continuing to run out old announcing tropes when the game is so obviously different today.
Ben B Verified Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I wonder if this season is a tryout for LaTroy and Torii with an eye on one of them maybe replacing Bert in the future. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. Bert is obviously checked out and has been for years. He only does, what, 100 games a year? He must be getting sick of it.
SweetOne69 Verified Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Personally, I don't like his color commentary. He just repeats the same lines over and over again for the entire game.
VirginSturgeon Provisional Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Hell I even like Jack Morris much more than Bert for sure. Maybe I won't have to hear how the weather in California is next year. :-)
