I know it's just a "monthly thing"....BUT REALLY?????????

From ESPN:

Ervin Santana has a right to feel snubbed, too. He didn’t win AL Pitcher of the Month despite his .77 ERA, which he lowered to .66 after Tuesday’s start.

Houston’s Dallas Keuchel won the award after going 5-0 with a 1.21 ERA.

Ervin Santana (@Twins) ranks first in MLB in ERA, WHIP, opponent BA, opponent OBP and opponent slugging percentage

Santana is the only pitcher in MLB history to begin a season with six straight starts allowing one run and four hits or less since the mound moved to 60 feet, 6 inches in 1893, according to ESPN. In fact, he was the only pitcher to do that in five straight starts before he extended it to six on Tuesday.

The Twins haven’t had a player win the player of the month award since Joe Mauer won it in May of 2009. The last Twins pitcher to win the monthly award was Francisco Liriano in April of 2010.

Scheduling-wise, Keuchel was able to get 6 starts in April, and Santana only 5.  And Keuchel threw more innings in his starts too, completing at least 7 innings each time out.  Ervin had "only" gone 6 innings in 3 of his starts already, including one in which the bullpen coughed up a lead in the 7th.

Not taking away anything from Ervin, he has been great.  But I'd have to give the nod to Keuchel so far too.

So, Ervin shut the opposing team down earlier and could rest! It is a loooonggg season    ;)

So there is a good chance that Saturday's rain out cost Ervin pitcher of the month. I still remember from 1991 until like July or August of 1992, every AL pitcher of the month was either a Twin or Roger Clemens. Erickson, Morris, Tapani, Bill Krueger, John Smiley and I think Aguilera all won it once in that span. Clemens did it like 4 or 5 times.

Yeah, it's hard to get too riled up about this. Keuchel has been fantastic.
