Fargo Season 3

I was just going to add this to the past thread but I see there is already a Season 1 and a Season 2 thread.

Not a lot of big names in Season 3 from the sound of it, Ewan McGregor is top billing which sounds good to me. They also announced that Jim Gaffigan is also going to be in it. I love Gaffigan, but that seems to have the potential to be too on point for comic relief. They'll probably have to treat that character carefully or it could easily become a caricature of what Gaffigan does on stage which is probably too overt for a show trying to be a sophisticated crime comedy.

They ran a lot of previews during Legions finale (to it's quite outstanding season.  Aubrey Plaza for every award known to mankind) - the OJ/Meth line cracked me up.

Stolen from AV Club Comments:

-Yet another well done job by the FX CEO of ass! Just outstanding work this year...

Great episode.

It's a tad weaker than previous seasons IMO.

definitely.   still better than most things on TV, but definitely weaker.

I can't quite put my finger on why though.  I think, in previous seasons, certain characters had their hooks in me more.

Nobody has that at this point.  Stussey's Humvee driving stooge is the closest.  The British guy does nothing for me at this point, nor does that story.

There  aren't any menacing bad guys, or at least we haven't seen any yet.

Que?!?!

I think the big bad this year has been great, he's gonna go full Malvo soon enough.

Season one sort of dragged in the middle episodes as well. This will be fine

He's building up, but we haven't seen him do anything...yet.  We know it's there, though.

I have been a bit disappointed in this season. I certainly think it is the weakest of the three. Season two had a certain style that cannot be mimicked, however.

True. But that's pretty much right on the money with Coen Bros' brand of storytelling (I know this is not a Coen Bros product, of course, but still...). In a Coen Bros story, the antagonist is genereally everyone's stupidity/obliviousness, and this season has that in spades.

I've only seen the first four, but I think it's pretty good so far. Stuhlbarg is just perfect.

...Their own stupidity and the fact that we are all tiny specs floating around in a chaotic and unforgiving universe without comprehending the meaninglessness of our relatively insignificant lives.

Also, this season involves a bit too much "yokelness" on the part of these Minnesotans. Unless there actually is a PD that was housed in a public library in 2010 somewhere. No computers? Her character is nowhere near and idiot, but she is made to be this luddite working as a cop out of a library . . .

When Noah Hawley took up Legion I mentioned that I was concerned that Fargo might not get his full attention. This season doesn't seem to have the same attention to detail or character development as past seasons. I really like most of the actors, but the characters aren't nearly as fleshed out as seasons previous. I wonder how much Hawley is actually involved this year.

Also, it sounds like this might be the last season:

I'm guessing Hawley has other things on his plate, and if they include X-Men they are probably more profitable.

That's too bad if this is the last season of the show... I agree with others on here that this season is not the best. It's been a slow burn up to this point. Haven't watched this week's episode yet, but planning on it tonight.

I actually really like this season. I'm glad to see Mr. Wrench show back up, I am really hoping him and MEW can go on the lam together.
