Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Late last week, we moved to a managed ad service. We finally gave up and put the handling of ads and slots to professionals who know what they're doing. Have ads been better for most of you over the past 3-4 days? I know they've loaded more quickly and shown more relevant information for me but I want to get a feel for what all of you are seeing.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 They are better than the auto-play ads before, and not messing with the user experience on the site so far. I'll pay attention more to the ads, but I'm seeing ads for Sling TV and SquareSpace right now.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Actually for me they load a lot slower and still try to fix me up with young Russian and Thai women. So, the jury is still out for me.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I see a lot of this, where it sits and thinks for a while before loading the ads.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 There's a display bug in the top ad that I'll get around to investigating soon. It'll open a 250px height container when it only needs 90px.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I'm experiencing periods of slowness ... even in typing let alone posting. And I'm getting audio ads ... and can't seem to mute them, either. Just had a State Farm ad go by in the upper right-hand position.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 And now another one ... still State Farm but a different ad. Same spot. And I finished typing that and waited 5-10 seconds for it to catch up with me.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Which ad location? The top spot on the right.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Brock, I was searching Vikings Journal on iPad/iPhone last night and earlier today. It's been redirecting me to a spam site where "I've won a Free iPad!" with no back tab to return to VJ. Using Safari on the apple products. So far it's worked well on a PC.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 This one is causing lots of forced takeover of the focus.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Which ad location?Same spot, top right side ... there were two in a row ... I didn't get the first one, but here's the State Farm one ... video/audio ad ... and no way to stop or mute it: Broker 1
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I'm seeing a very large auto-play video ad of the new Benedict Cumberbatch movie this morning. Located between the 1st and 2nd most recently updated threads on Minnesota Twins Talk and The Sports Bar.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 How about a little Chris Herr-Mann instead? <pppffftsputtter> I'm not even sure how to respond to that. But somewhere in the Universe, Skeletor is getting anxious. snepp and ashbury 2

ashbury Verified Member Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 If we ever meet I'll show you what I mean.Unless your webcam is turned on while you surf the web, you may be overestimating the algorithms the ad services use.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Unless your webcam is turned on while you surf the web, you may be overestimating the algorithms the ad services use.Must be. TD certainly does seem eager to fix me up with Russian and Asian child brides. diehardtwinsfan and Vanimal46 2

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Those ad companies are getting really smart.... I hear they know what people search on google all the time. Sounds like they nailed it down for you!Seriously then, why do I keep seeing ads for shoes? I never search for shoes online.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Seriously then, why do I keep seeing ads for shoes? I never search for shoes online. They're inside your mind and know what you want before you know you want it! You guys get the fun ads... I've got a big Sling TV ad on the right hand side of the screen, and an Uber Eats Austin ad on the top banner.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Mine never changed ... you made me Imelda Marcos and I was Imelda the whole time there. Shoes, anyone? Seriously then, why do I keep seeing ads for shoes? I never search for shoes online. I $%^& you not, I simply googled ChiTownTwinsFan and Marcos. This was the third option from the top. I was pretty sure I remembered something about you and a shoe issue. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/11880-article-welcome-to-the-new-twins-daily/page-9 Squirrel 1
