Kepler v Buxton

With the fantasy baseball trade deadline looming, If you were in a keeper league, would you trade Buxton for Kepler straight up?  Who do you think has the better career if you had to answer right now?

Lets say you're the Buxton owner and you are in "win now" mode. Would you do it?

Yeah, but just barely. Buxton still has a lot of potential and could still easily end up being worth more than Kepler long run, but I'd probably go with Kepler. Wouldn't argue with someone who disagrees though.

Byron Buxton is not a 'bust.' I repeat: not a bust. Too early, too valuable defensively.

But I do not expect greatness from him. This German kid on the other hand...I could see it.

Keeper League?

Probably Kepler who will be more of an offensive force. Fantasy doesn't take into factor defense.

Overall I think Buxton has more WAR in his career.

This is a no brainer in fantasy given the lack of defensive consideration.

Just on baseball terms . . . that's a really tough one. I would take Kepler but it's close.

Is it a straight-up old school 5/5 category rotisserie league? Draft or auction? What's the keeper window? Am I a fantasy nerd yet?

In a standard keeper league with keepers retained an additional year, Buxton is risky for next year because his average and power are still so far behind Kepler. Buxton's fantasy value so far is almost entirely based on steals, so how much he helps your team is going to depend on how all in you're willing to go for steals with your roster construction.

That said, for a 'win now' team, Kepler is a starter in almost any league right now, while Buxton's value is almost all tied to next year and beyond.

If I had to make a choice, I'd take Kepler.  I've always been pretty high on him and fairly skeptical of Buxton (but a fan of both).

Buxton has been a disappointment so far, granted.  Long term my only concern is his injuries.  He's got about 1% body fat and that is just too, too wired.  How many superstar baseball's can you recall that looked like he does?  Can lead to consistent injuries and I expect what we've seen so far will continue.  I would not be surprised to see him out of baseball in 4 or 5 years because of injuries.  Sano, on the other hand, probably not so much.
