If it was correct, don't you think GM's would exploit such a loophole, to "trade" a player who had no-trade rights and didn't want to go, all the time?

Fun exercise, but nobody is claiming Mauer. That would be an instantly fireable offense by the other GM.

Knowing that, I'd never agree to a full no trade clause if I were a GM.

If that's true, why even bother putting Joe on waivers? He's never saying yes to a trade. And even if he is, there is no reason whatsoever to wait until August.

I'm not sure I buy that as a good reason for the Rule.

In that case, why even bother with a salary cap in football? Teams could just pay guys extra under the table. You could go on and on.
