Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Meh, Mauer would decline to go anyway.....I don't think Mauer can decline a waiver pickup, he can only veto a trade. Or is that incorrect?
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I don't think Mauer can decline a waiver pickup, he can only veto a trade. Or is that incorrect? If it was correct, don't you think GM's would exploit such a loophole, to "trade" a player who had no-trade rights and didn't want to go, all the time?
amjgt Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Fun exercise, but nobody is claiming Mauer. That would be an instantly fireable offense by the other GM. Let loose... have some fun.... In that scenario, would Antony let him go for nothing?
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 If it was correct, don't you think GM's would exploit such a loophole to "trade" a player who had a no-trade clause and didn't want to be, all the time? How is it a trade if you are getting nothing in return?
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 yeah, pretty sure Mauer can say no if claimed.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 How is it a trade if you are getting nothing in return?Crooked underhanded dealings could cover the return, if this loophole could be exploited. Not that C.U.D. don't occur anyway, here and there.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 yeah, pretty sure Mauer can say no if claimed.Ok, that's an odd quirk.Knowing that, I'd never agree to a full no trade clause if I were a GM.If that's true, why even bother putting Joe on waivers? He's never saying yes to a trade. And even if he is, there is no reason whatsoever to wait until August.

Not that C.U.D. don't occur anyway, here and there. I'm not sure I buy that as a good reason for the Rule.In that case, why even bother with a salary cap in football? Teams could just pay guys extra under the table. You could go on and on.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Mauer is also 10 and 5.....so NTC or not, he can say no to any move.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Mauer is also 10 and 5.....so NTC or not, he can say no to any move.Ok, I also did not realize 10/5 was for any move I thought that was also for trades.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Ok, I also did not realize 10/5 was for any moveI thought that was also for trades. But money can heal many wounds. Or becoming an instant free agent. Or going to a surefire contending team.
