ACE up the Twins sleeve in 2017? Or a handful of jokers?

In their history, PHI has never lost 100 games, so not sure how they went from 100 losses to the playoffs.

In the "playoff era", right? Because they sure had some stinkeroo seasons in 1961, 1945, 1942, 1941, 1940, 1939, ... . :)

Sorry, I didn't go back to before there were playoffs to see if they lost 100 games, and then made the playoffs. My bad....

I was mainly poking fun. When you said "in their history", well, my snap reaction was that the Phillies history is not exactly one of unalloyed success. I just double checked and they had a period from 1918 to 1948 where they escaped the second division and achieved (barely) an above-.500 season exactly once, and there were other periods of extended futility as well.

On Opening Day the plate umpire would not shout Play Ball, but Better Luck Next Year.

This carried over to the playoff era, but usually when they have reached the playoffs it's after a long slow climb to respectability rather than worst-to-first. (Except 1992-93 when they turned around a 92 loss season to reach the World Series, but that's not the 100-loss threshold we're discussing here.)

I appreciated the humor, actually......too serious on this thread.

Last year there were 5 SPs with a WAR above 5.6.  Kershaw was tops with 7.1.  Shelby Miller had a WAR of 3.4 and Atlanta got a haul for him.  Of course, WAR is a suspect stat but predicting 10 extra wins in incredibly optimistic.

I agree - with you.   I was sarcastic, not accurate and your point just emphasizes more of why we cannot fix this team with the simple(?) addition of an Ace.

Which is good since we won't buy one or trade for one and seem to be incapable of developing one (apparently).
