But he also says this is an issue "in our market" and then compares us unfavorably to Yankee fans. That is the part that is confusing. If he was talking in universal, generic terms like you, it would make more sense.

I think he was trying to explain that it's hard to compete against a team that has twice as much revenue to a child. In a sport without a salary cap this is undoubtably true. You don't want to give a kid the direct answer though because it's one of the more unpleasant truths about the league. Basically, life's not fair kid. Get used to it.

I guess I am the only homer that some what understands his statement about the focus on winning takes away some of the beauty of the game. To me if you are a truly unbiased and objective baseball fan you love watching players from both sides making great baseball plays. Sure you want "your" team to win but great baseball is great baseball. Even great teams lose. Granted ultimately we measure a teams success by wins and losses but if you really love baseball you just love baseball.

He also said: "It's not fun to watch the game for the sake of watching the game."

Not that there's a rule that owners have to be more than casual fans.

So, the worst part about owning the Twins in 2016 is they can't compete with the big, bad Yankees? That seems so 2005...

Like how you changed the question to try and make some point. Not to mention there is a question that is much closer to the one you just made up in the interview. Try to remember that he was speaking to a child as I already noted.

In short the answer is no. The Yankee's do not have a direct effect on the Twin's current problems.

I think he might have been ascribing that thought to others -- the folks who put too emphasis on winning in this market.

Huh? I changed the question? The question from the interview was, what is the worst part about owning a sports team. And his answer, as you explained it, was that it's hard to compete against the higher revenue team. How did I change the question? I am not trying to prove any point, just trying to figure put what he is saying.

I see. You changed it from a general question about owning a sports team to a specific question about owning the Twin's in 2016. This changes the question a lot because the Twins are currently the worst team in MLB. In a general sense any team has a tough time competing against teams like the Yankee's or Red Sox who can spend more on free agents, international signings, coaches, and front office staff. The Twin's obviously have issues with that and allocating the resources they do have correctly.

Where did I change it to 2016? I really don't follow you here.

It just seems a kind of odd, confusing statement from Pohlad, that is all I was noting.

"So, the worst part about owning the Twins in 2016 is they can't compete with the big, bad Yankees?" To me this is changing the question. I'll agree  Pohlads answer was not very straight forward and mentioning the fans was unnecessary. Either way though, I thought your way of interpreting his answer was unfair in my opinion.

Ah, sorry, didn't mean in connection with our 2016 record. I meant 6 years after Target Field opened. I wouldn't think market constraints would be our top concern anymore.
