Fair enough, I don't think they traded him because he was worth more on the roster than any return they could have got for him.  I find that more logical.

My theory, which is just a theory is that the Twins are well aware his offense is worth more at 3b. And they felt he would struggle for a year but could improve to an average defensive 3b. But given the trend the last 1-2 years they are not confident he can play there in a year. So it was risky to trade Plouffe.

 

I also think the Ruesse article likely had its genesis with frustrated Twins officials. I agree with Levi, not a good way to run a business but they have used the media this way before. Aaron Hicks comes to mind as a recent example.

Tobi, I really hope your theory is wrong. I'm pretty sick of young guys getting thrown under the bus to the press, but I can't deny that it is possible. Hope you're wrong, there are so many better ways to handle it.

Maybe, but cutting weight isn't the same for everyone.  I've found that I simply can't go below a certain threshold before I start losing muscle.  You see this from former offensive lineman all the time - yeah, they cult the bulk and got chiseled, but they cut a lot of muscle bulk in the process too.  

Keep in mind that football linemen are way over-muscled. For them cutting muscle after their playing years are over is a good thing because their bodies are getting back to normal.

"Used the media" may have been a poor word choice. Don't know that they intentionally leaked that vs. a frustrated official or two off the record. But I think that is where the story came from
