Carlos Correa won the AL Rookie of the Year Award tonight. Francisco Lindor finished second.

The Twins Miguel Sano finished third. He received 20 third place votes. Eddie Rosario came in 6th and received two third place votes.

That's pretty ridiculous (and easy comparison because Correa and Lindor play the same position)  :

Lindor 4.6 bWAR, 4.6 fWAR  .313/.353/.482, 10.5 UZR, 10 DRS
Correa 4.1 bWAR, 3.3 fWAR .275/.340/.458, -6 UZR, 0 DRS
(Sano 2.1 bWAR, 2.0 fWAR)

Guess the writers are counting HRs and RBI and who made the post-season...

The right guy won.  The right guy took second.  The right guy took third.

It's nothing more then an indication of their rookie seasons.

To be fully honest I think I'd rather have Correa than Sano anyways.

This, exactly this.

Although, having looked at Thrylos's post on the other thread, the only person who should feel jipped is Lindor.  Other then HR's he did have the superior season.

Sportswriters dig the long ball too I guess.

Correa prob got some bonus points because he was hyped up more and went to the playoffs. I would have voted for Lindor, but this isn't as bad as other past votes

Yes, Sano maybe should have/could have won the award.  But, unfortunately he was stuck in minors while Correa was accumulating stats.  You also have to factor in that those two players play a premium position (SS), while Sano played nearly no defense.  But, if all three have the exact same number of ABs, I think Sano wins based on flashier power/rbi/ops numbers.

It's also entirely possible that Sano doesn't perform as well in those incremental at-bats.  But, we'll never know.

Put Correa in the Twins system, and he doesn't win the award, becuase he loses a month of his season, and probably hits lower in the BA.  Likewise, Sano probably wins it if he played for a team with a looser philosophy on service time and hits 35 HRs with 100+ RBI.  (Coincidentally, the Astros called their stud prospect up a few weeks earlier, and edged the Twins for a playoff spot as well).

Sano didn't deserve it.  He may have won it, maybe, it he had played more but he didn't.

Additionally, even if he had played more, since the guys who finished one, two are shortstops, I still doubt it.  Because that is a prime position and Sano would have done mostly DH.
