DrNeau Verified Member Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Total BS. 80 games, 18 HR, 52 RBI, .916 OPS. Clearly he should have won. Agree?
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Carlos Correa won the AL Rookie of the Year Award tonight. Francisco Lindor finished second. The Twins Miguel Sano finished third. He received 20 third place votes. Eddie Rosario came in 6th and received two third place votes.
RedBull34 Verified Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 99 games, 22 HR's, 68 RBI's, .857 OPS from SS Clearly he should have won. Agree? Oh wait.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 That's pretty ridiculous (and easy comparison because Correa and Lindor play the same position) : Lindor 4.6 bWAR, 4.6 fWAR .313/.353/.482, 10.5 UZR, 10 DRSCorrea 4.1 bWAR, 3.3 fWAR .275/.340/.458, -6 UZR, 0 DRS(Sano 2.1 bWAR, 2.0 fWAR) Guess the writers are counting HRs and RBI and who made the post-season...
RedBull34 Verified Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 The right guy won. The right guy took second. The right guy took third. It's nothing more then an indication of their rookie seasons. To be fully honest I think I'd rather have Correa than Sano anyways.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Third as he should have. I'd have gone Lindor, Correa, Sano.

RedBull34 Verified Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Although, having looked at Thrylos's post on the other thread, the only person who should feel jipped is Lindor. Other then HR's he did have the superior season. Sportswriters dig the long ball too I guess.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Here are the individual votes. 2 writers per team. The MN writers who voted? Gregg Wong & Andy Greder. Alrighty.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Correa prob got some bonus points because he was hyped up more and went to the playoffs. I would have voted for Lindor, but this isn't as bad as other past votes
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I thought Lindor should have won too but all three look like pretty good players.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 With the hype, the hot start and Houston's surprise season, Correa had it won before Lindor and Sano even got called up, fair or not.
JaleelWhite FanClub Provisional Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Throw in his defense and Rosario should be the guy complaining about not finishing higher. The OBP Police strike again!!!
Darius Verified Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Yes, Sano maybe should have/could have won the award. But, unfortunately he was stuck in minors while Correa was accumulating stats. You also have to factor in that those two players play a premium position (SS), while Sano played nearly no defense. But, if all three have the exact same number of ABs, I think Sano wins based on flashier power/rbi/ops numbers. It's also entirely possible that Sano doesn't perform as well in those incremental at-bats. But, we'll never know. Put Correa in the Twins system, and he doesn't win the award, becuase he loses a month of his season, and probably hits lower in the BA. Likewise, Sano probably wins it if he played for a team with a looser philosophy on service time and hits 35 HRs with 100+ RBI. (Coincidentally, the Astros called their stud prospect up a few weeks earlier, and edged the Twins for a playoff spot as well).
jimmer Verified Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Sano didn't deserve it. He may have won it, maybe, it he had played more but he didn't. Additionally, even if he had played more, since the guys who finished one, two are shortstops, I still doubt it. Because that is a prime position and Sano would have done mostly DH.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 This was a fun read and explained why Sano wouldn't have been a horrible choice for ROY - it was written in Sept. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jabo-boosting-miguel-sanos-case-for-rookie-of-the-year/
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Wait, short stops who might already be the best SS in the entire game shouldn't be rookie of the year? Is that really what some people are saying?
