This is truly hilarious, the GOP has an issue with the pope coming to the US and talking to them on such things as climate change because "he doesn't know what he's talking about"....even though he was a Chemist prior to being a pope.

Wasn't this the same party that let Netanyahu address them with a bunch of fear mongering anti muslim/anti Iran propoganda a couple months ago? Also, the Pope is viewed favorably by the majority of Americans, and very favorably around the globe. I personally am going to try to see him on his visit to NYC later this week, the GOP sort of "****ting" on him is just another headscratcher IMO and shows they are truly out of touch with resoanble Americans.

I find it humorous that both parties try to decide to cheer or boo depending on what he is talking about.  Income inequality, abortion, climate change, and same-sex marriage highlight just a few that either party can go from loving him or hating him and claiming he is either 'ignorant' or 'behind the times'.

Me, personally as a non-Roman-Catholic I have never really put him on a pedestal or all that much cared what he believed.  For some reason many Americans even non-Catholics do care in the same way that people care about what is going on in the Royal Family, yet I don't care at all as either set has very little impact on my life or what I believe.

Francis hasn't moved the glacier on doctrine, but he has put emphasis back where it belongs. I found it almost comical listening to EWTN's analysis of his homily to the family conference--the commentators were almost begging him to come down hard on gay marriage, abortion, etc.

I would say his pronouncements there were oblique, but as I said, doctrine hasn't changed.
