Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 Had a flight of stouts and other "irish" beer last night. I had lamb shank (meh) and my wife had shepherd's pie. So, I guess we started last night.....
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 LOVE shepherd's pie.... One of my favorite things to order at the British Pubs down here in Austin.

Shepherd's Pie is one of my favorites. I actually make a mean Shepherd's Pie. I use A-1 Steak sauce instead of Worchestshire sauce. I really got burned out on the latter in the last decade. IMO it makes it better.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Happy First Day of Spring! The winter wasn't too bad for you up north, was it? It's been beautiful down here, and taking advantage of the 80 degree weather before it jumps up to 100 in another month. Today is also National Ravioli Day! I can't say this is a favorite of mine whenever I'm feeling like pasta.... But hey, it's only a national day once a year, right?! Unfortunately on this day in history, a lot of it is war related.... That's no fun on this thread!
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 March 20th, 1915 - Albert Einstein publishes the General Theory of Relativity. March 20th, 2015 - A Solar eclipse, equinox, and a Supermoon all occur on the same day. And I like Lasagne.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Aww! Today is National Puppy Day you guys! Craig, when are you going to get another puppy? Chi, maybe your cat needs a new friend! Mike, you could bring a new puppy on a hike! Today is also National Chip and Dip Day! Favorite dips to go with chips, ranked:- Guac- Queso- Salsa- Buffalo Chicken Dip- Spinach Artichoke- Hummus- Walking into oncoming traffic - Onion Dip Finally, today is National Near Miss Day! A day where an asteroid was supposed to hit the Earth in 1989, but ended up missing us! Good thing, as it was so big, if it hit the Earth, it would have been the same impact as a 600 megaton atomic bomb...
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Let's see... Probably no more puppies; an older rescue dog would be next in line for us. Salsa; hummus is for flatbread, not chips. Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 No pets for us. we like our freedom. That's my problem at the moment.... I'd love to get a puppy one day, but I also like not having to worry about getting home at a certain time to let the dog out. For the time being, I'll continue to get my dog fix at friends' houses, or volunteering at Austin Pets Alive!

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2017 Author Posted April 4, 2017 I think chocolate mousse for your birthday is a fine thing! Ended up with Sushi. Then, unlike MN you can find dessert everywhere in Portland, so we started to walk to a french place for mousse. But, there was a pie place on the way, so we had chocolate creme pie (pretty much mousse) and cherry pie. That place is less than 2 miles from my new apartment......and the bourbon peach pie needs tasting...
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 Today is, coincidentally, both National Beer Day, and national no housework day....
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 What's on the menu for you guys on this Easter weekend?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 Well, if I knew if my youngest son was coming home or not.....but I think a winery visit is happening. I have no idea. We don't celebrate most religious holidays anymore, and we have little family out here (and they don't celebrate religious holidays, mostly).
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Holidays are certainly different when you're not living close to family anymore. Fortunately I was invited over to my co-worker/future business partner's house to celebrate with her family and friends. Smoking a pork shoulder, cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese, other assorted fruits and veggies, and drinks in the pool!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 future business partner?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 future business partner? That's right! Her and I have worked so well together over the last 3 years that we are going to start our own firm in the next 2-3 years. We're in the planning stages right now finding out everything we'd need to get off the ground and what the ROI would be. Very excited!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 And, he's coming home. So, no golfing on Saturday I guess. Probably means a good restaurant tonight after he gets off the bus. Hopefully we can play on Sunday.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Traditional Easter lasagna at my brother's house.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Traditional Easter lasagna at my brother's house. First I've heard of an Easter Lasagna tradition.... That sounds delicious!
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 What's on the menu for you guys on this Easter weekend? Lots and lots of these.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2017 Author Posted April 17, 2017 National bat appreciation day. I love bats. Such a cool mammal. it's also Haiku day, and my facebook feed is shockingly void of them. It's kind of a sad world, actually. We should all be doing Haiku today.

One of my best pranks on my older brother is bat related..... He's deathly afraid of them, and one morning I balled up some black socks, made "wings" out of some wire, opened his door and yelled "BAT!!!" while throwing it on his bed. Good times....
