twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 bloody mary at brunch. Make it a double.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Happy Thursday! Today is National Blueberry Cheesecake Day! I love cheesecake in general. Whether it has blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries on top, I will eat it. No questions asked. Today is also National Red Nose Day! A day to wear red noses, come up with fun and wacky fundraisers to help support children in the poorest communities in the world.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Whenever I think of wearing a red nose this film always comes to mind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawks_(film) Fun and wacky in a different way.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I love wine. I need to cut back on the beer, and add more wine I'd add the wine, keep the beer and cut back on turpentine instead.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I'm all in favor of cutting back on whine, but in general I prefer mead. Since that's a bit hard to come by (at least the good stuff) I usually get beer. An occasional brandy or liqueur are nice.Wine when I go Italian or French cusine, which is not that often these days. Mimosa's at brunch. I've got a ?meadery? in town that I'm trying to drag the wife to. Not that I would know if it was any good or not.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I'm not usually into sweeter drinks, I might not have the patience for practice. But I'm still up for giving it a go.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 Tomorrow is national hamburger day. Just letting you know ahead of time, so you can plan.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Tomorrow is national hamburger day. Just letting you know ahead of time, so you can plan.I walk by this place almost every day. One of their locations is in my neighborhood. It smells SO GOOD. Might have to partake tomorrow. Their cheese curds and fried pickles are awesome as well as their beer selections. http://burgerbarchicago.com/
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 For those living in the Twin Cities, did anyone go to the TC Burger Battle?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Tomorrow is national hamburger day. Just letting you know ahead of time, so you can plan.Woah woah woah. You're missing a potentially YUGE national day tomorrow.... National Brisket Day!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 Had brisket last night.....
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 A good brisket takes time............something I sorely lack. National burger day was good, fortunately the same place in town that makes the best hot dog also makes the best burger. Today was a good day.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Happy Thursday! Hope everyone's had a good week so far. Today is National Rocky Road Day! Rocky Road ice cream ranks right up there for my favorite flavor of all-time. The only ones that may be better are chocolate chip cookie dough, or mint chocolate chip. Today is also National Rotisserie Chicken Day! I bought a rotisserie chicken on Sunday to use for chicken lasagna and gyros, but since I've been sick I haven't been able to enjoy the meals yet... Today is also National Leave the Office Early Day! So when you get your stuff done for the day, feel free to shut down the computer and go home! I'm sure your boss will understand.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 At the moment, my boss is happy that I haven't just folded up the tent and gone on walkabout.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Hard to say what "early" is now that I live out here, and work MN hours......but let's see how I can do.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Concert tonight so definitely won't be leaving early. It'll be at least 10pm before we're finished. Rocky road? Meh. I think there is definitely a case for too much of a good thing. I like all the various parts, and even some of those parts in combination, just not all of those parts all together. I like chicken. Unfortunately, my rotisserie chicken dinnahs have been far too scarce this year. Sigh. A bust day for celebrations for me, I guess.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Groupon tells me this is National Doughnut Day. I admit to having this weakness.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 It sure is National Doughnut Day! I have that weakness as well, and try to avoid it at all costs. Today is also National Chocolate Macaroon Day! So really they just want us to eat sweets all day.... Today is also Repeat Day! A day where you're supposed to repeat a good memory or day you had. Today is also Repeat Day! A day where you're supposed to repeat a good memory or day you had. Today is also Repeat Day! You get the picture....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 I just don't like doughnuts like I used to. Not sure why that is.
formerly33 Verified Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 The only doughnuts worth eating are the ones from Pine Tree Apple Orchard ... mmmm. Out of this world. If it's chocolate, I'll eat it. Like most people, that's my guilty pleasure. Unfortunately, I'm finally beginning to feel normal again after being sick all week from homemade chocolate ice cream I ate at a carry in at church ... and no, I'm not like Jonathan Blake ... I just got sick from the raw egg. However, since it's repeat day, I'll relay the poem which was definitely a favorite as a child. At least, it was a favorite of my older sisters', so I heard it enough to have fond memories of it. After the Partyby William Wise Jonathan BlakeAte too much cake,He isn't himself today; He's tucked up in bedWith a feverish head,And he doesn't much care to play. Jonathan BlakeAte too much cake,And three kinds of ice cream too -From latest reportsHe's quite out of sorts,And I'm sure the reports are true. I'm sorry to stateThat he also ateSix pickles, a pie and a pear;In fact I confessIt's a reasonable guessHe ate practically everything there. Yes, Jonathan BlakeAte too much cake,So he's not at his best today; But there's no need for sorrow -If you come back tomorrow,I'm sure he'll be out to play.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Doughnuts or donuts ... I'm there. We have some fine establishments for such creations here in Chicago: http://www.stansdonutschicago.com/ http://doritedonuts.com/ http://doughnutvault.com/ I have yet to try the last one. They open so early, the line is long, then close when the last is sold. But the other two ... yum!!! Of course, where I grew up ... hard act to follow anywhere ... truly the best! http://www.bloedows.com/ Yes, donut/doughnut day is the best!!!
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Hot food debate question: Do you prefer cream-filled or jelly-filled doughnuts?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Hot food debate question: Do you prefer cream-filled or jelly-filled doughnuts? Depends on the cream and it depends on the jelly.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Depends on the cream and it depends on the jelly.Let's say you're at Bluedow's and they have 1 Bavarian Cream and 1 raspberry-jelly filled donut left. Which are you choosing?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Let's say you're at Bluedow's and they have 1 Bavarian Cream and 1 raspberry-jelly filled donut left. Which are you choosing?Yes. And it's Bloedow's.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Let's say you're at Bluedow's and they have 1 Bavarian Cream and 1 raspberry-jelly filled donut left. Which are you choosing? Not for doughnuts. Blackberry Danish with a side of Creme Brulee.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I only like glazed cake donuts. I don't like cake and I don't like donuts. Isn't that somethin?

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Happy Tuesday! Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day! I've always loved ice cream, but have not kept much in my apartment because I'd eat too much in one sitting.. Today is also National VCR Day! Ah, the joys of a VCR player. Renting a movie and getting a fine if you don't rewind the tape. Recording over your wedding tape with the series finale of Seinfeld. Does anyone still have a VCR stored away somewhere? If so, hook it up to the TV and live nostalgically today!
