Dark Chocolate Ice Cream is like a hanging curveball; can't miss it.

We do have a VCR around, and there are tapes from our wedding, including from the rehearsal dinner where my best man, groomsmen, and I perform Elvis. No stepping on the blue suede shoes, hound dogs.

Happy Tuesday!

Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day! I've always loved ice cream, but have not kept much in my apartment because I'd eat too much in one sitting..

Today is also National VCR Day! Ah, the joys of a VCR player. Renting a movie and getting a fine if you don't rewind the tape. Recording over your wedding tape with the series finale of Seinfeld. Does anyone still have a VCR stored away somewhere? If so, hook it up to the TV and live nostalgically today!

Actually, I still have a VCR hooked up to my TV; it's actually a VCR/DVD combo. And I never use it anymore. I didn't even remember how many tapes and discs I had ... more than I thought. But, well, I'm in a 'cleaning out the closets' mode and have made my piles ... keep, toss, recycle, donate. While some places might still take VCR tapes in donation, those are few and far between at this point in technology. So I found a place, after doing my research, that will take technotrash, such as cassette and VCR tapes and actually recycle them. I had to pay $10 + shipping, pack them in a box, and off they will go ... as soon as I make my way to the post office. It's better than the landfill. Just trying to do my part.

As for the ice cream part ... yeah, I also try not to keep ice cream in the house. I have spurts of success with that ... but greater spurts of failure. But I enjoy the failure. :)

We've got some positive national holidays!

Today is National Best Friends Day! Do any of you still have best friends from a very young age? I'm fortunate to find 2 buddies where I currently work who have become best friends.. The best friends that I grew up with unfortunately are spread around the country, and it's hard to stay in touch without seeing them often. I suppose that's what happens when you grow up....

Today is also National Upsy Daisy Day! A day to remind you that it's a gift we all get to wake up to face another day, and we should do it positively!

Finally, today is National Name Your Poison Day! We've all heard the term at a bar "name your poison". What are you going to drink tonight after work?

My best friend from high school (who was also best man at my wedding)  and I do not see each other nearly as much as we should these days. Need to fix that. His oldest son works for one of the big baseball scouting combines, unless I've lost track of him too.

I get up at 4:30 most mornings. I don't recommend it to anyone who doesn't have to.

I have Sir Duluth Oatmeal Stout waiting in the fridge.

My best friend's mom was my mom's best friend and maid of honor. If I get married, my best friend will be mine (duh). Also, my mom's best friend introduced her to classical music, and mine introduced me to non-classical music. If we both have kids, I suppose hers will introduce mine to Justin Bieber ... ugh ... but to be clear, I won't ban them. And, um, I suppose these hypothetical children will grow up and won't want to honor tradition and will have different best people of honor, and this will be my bff and me:

You should've warned me about upsy-daisy day yesterday. I didn't roll out of bed until nearly 9:00, and it wasn't until quite a while later that I found out I should've been up earlier. I got up early consistently last summer, and I didn't like it. However, I will admit I should find a happy medium ... 6:30? 7:00?

And, well, my id says in bright red letters that I'm under 21, so ...

Van and I already mentioned getting a group together to ride the Empire Builder out to see you. It'll be one heckuva party train as long as Craig brings along an ample supply of mead for us all! :)

Heh, I actually was in first class but didn't imbibe, but I was served breakfast. I suppose I could have ordered a Bloody Mary or a mimosa but I don't like to drink and fly.

I'm counting on you to pick up some of that Viking Blod for me. :)

Well, since the Empire Builder originates in ChiTown, I guess that could be my responsibility. Then you need to provide good snacks.

Today is National Donald Duck Day! Donald Duck first debuted in 1934! Now that's one old duck.

Today is also National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day! I'm a big, big fan of this pie.

Today is also National Earl Day! A day to remember the great people named Earl. I'm pretty sure this name is becoming extinct. I can't recall growing up with anyone named Earl.

Donald is okay; my all-time favorite Disney character is Professor Ludwig Von Drake.

Not a huge rhubarb fan.

About 30 years ago, I worked with an engineer named Earl. He taught my wife and I about playing Duplicate Bridge at a tournament level. Probably been 10 years now since I last played. :(

We have some goodies to end the week on.

Today is National Black Cow Day! I've never heard this refreshment being called Black Cow, so let's clear this up. Today is National Root Beer Float Day! I LOVE root beer floats, and used to make them on a near daily basis as a teenager. It's a hot one in Austin today, and a root beer float would hit the spot!

Today is also National Herbs & Spices Day! Tis' the season to grow fresh herbs and spices in a garden. I've recently purchased a planter box to have on my balcony in order to grow fresh herbs! Cross fingers that basil, cilantro, and garlic start to grow!

Today is also National Iced Tea Day! Prior to moving to the south, I never considered drinking tea before. It's a summer tradition down here, and now iced tea is starting to grow on me. With a little bit of sweet please!

I'm an iced tea drinker. To mix it up a bit at times, I'll order an Arnold Palmer, which, for those who don't know, it half iced black tea, half lemonade. I'm also a fan of Steaz green teas. They have several favors but my favorite is the peach.

Holy cow, I like black cows! Yum!
