Fruit pies are soooooo good. Yummy.

Especially if you make them yourself! I just bookmarked a strawberry-rhubarb pie recipe I can't wait to try.

Hey, how about a pick me up for the weekend?!

Today is National Shrimp Scampi Day! That's a go-to for me at restaurants, and I love making that at home for dinner... Very easy meal during the middle of the week!

Today is also National Arbor Day! For those with backyards to maintain, plant a dang tree if you missed out on Earth Day!

Today is also National Hairball Awareness Day! I know we have some cat lovers, and cat haters in the house.. For the lovers out there, make sure your fur baby gets those hairballs out of their system!

Finally, Today is National Teach Children to Save Day! A penny saved is a penny earned as they say.. I was terrible at saving money when I was a kid. If I was given $5, you could bet that every dollar of that is spent on something.

Fie on your cat hairballs. Have a couple of shedding Goldens around in the spring and you'll know why we say 'Dog hair - it's not just a condiment, it's also a fashion statement.'

My yard is being taken over by the trees; the Apple blossoms are quite nice this time of year. That said, I need to trim those guys down this summer, or they'll start breaking the gutters.

I saved books when I was a kid. Still have a great many of them, although now they're boxed up and in storage. Along with a lot of the big kid books,

No kidding, it's ri-god dang-diculous these days... Can't wait to trade in my student loan payments for mortgage payments one day!! My future kiddo better get a full-ride scholarship somewhere. If that kiddo's anything like his old man, it won't be in sports.... or math.

We are fully loaded for National Holidays today... I'll pick out a couple.

Today is National Chocolate Custard Day! I love custard, and the pictures are making me really hungry this morning...

Today is also National Raspberry Popover Day! We had blueberry popover day in March, and IMO raspberry is an elite fruit over blueberry for desserts...

Today is also National Paranormal Day! A day when we can talk about spooky ghosts!! Who has a ghost story to share?

Finally, today is National Teacher Appreciation Day! I have several cousins who became elementary school teachers, and know they have good and really bad days.. A teacher that comes to mind that I really enjoyed was Mr. Krueger. He taught a lot of the business classes at my high school.. He was new to the teaching profession, and we were able to goof off a ton in those classes. However, taking those classes helped me realize what I wanted to do in college, and life, so I've got to thank him for that.

I have frozen chocolate custard in my freezer. Will have to have some tonight.

All popovers are good popovers.

The normal is quite interesting enough without having to invent the paranormal. :)

Fond memories of a lot of teachers; many are gone now.

Shame our legislators don't appreciate teachers the way that they should...but that's a discussion for a more political thread. I'm married to a teacher who is likely leaving teaching after this year due to a number of issues that have nothing to do with her love of helping children learn. One of the multiple reasons is dealing with parents who apparently have no responsibility any longer in the education of their child, so take time to appreciate those who teach, and especially those who teach your children.

It's pretty sad that it's come to that point with your wife, Ben. My cousins say the same thing and it's the most frustrating part of their jobs.. Some parents have the expectation now that teachers are supposed to teach their children everything, and they're off the hook for continuing the education at home. That, and entitled parents... Where they get emails from them saying "How on earth did my little Suzie get a C on her book report? You're not providing the support that my child needs... Etc."

Hola amigos y amigas! Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Mike's Famous Margaritas:

4 parts of your favorite tequila
2 parts orange liqueur
1 part lime juice

Today is also National Astronaut Day! Can we get launched into space to avoid the last 4 months of the baseball season?

Today is also National Hoagie Day! IMO it's all about the bread when it comes to making a great sandwich. French bread ranks right up there on my all-time favorites for making sandwiches..

Finally, today is National Cartoonists Day! I feel like this is a dying art.. Whenever I check out the comics in the newspaper these days, I'm not as impressed. Calvin and Hobbes is my all-time favorite comic strip, so Bill Watterson has to be on my list of favorite cartoonists.. Charles M. Schultz was brilliant as well with the Peanuts comic strips.. Who was/is your favorite cartoonist?

Mmmmm....Hoagies, truly a lost art in this day and age of the submarine sandwich. French roll is a good one but I'm a crusty Italian roll man myself. Hot or cold? I like 'em both.

Also, Calvin and Hobbes  http://www.123gifs.eu/free-gifs/hands/hand-0014.gif

For some reason I read that as 'I'm a crusty Italian man.' And I was thinking, "I get the crusty part, but Italian?" ;)

Oh, and C&H, while great, nothing yet beats out 'The Far Side' for me. When The Far Side ended, that was the day the music died.

No disrespect to Mike's Margaritas, but I'm going to try this one, I think, tomorrow ... a prosecco margarita! Sounds just perfect ...

Yeah, Gary Larson was a freaking genious.
