Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Okay ... it's not chocolate mousse, but since I didn't have any pumpkin pie this past weekend, I'm making these mini pies. So I can eat one or two over the next day or two ... then freeze the rest. Ahhh ... the tricks of cooking for one.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 mini pies sound better than normal pies! Are we talking 2 pumpkin pies, or mix and match?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 mini pies sound better than normal pies! Are we talking 2 pumpkin pies, or mix and match? We are talking 12 mini pumpkin pies made in a muffin tin. Can freeze and then thaw one when I want a piece of pie

twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 The day needs to get back to its roots. Strike a little fear into shoppers' hearts and they won't be mobbing the malls quite so much, innit? I love that picture, by strange coincidence the grocery store I was at today was auctioning off a large framed print of it. I think I should go make a bid, someone is trying to tell me something.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 So, we did a good job yesterday of foreshadowing today's National Days.Today is National Day of Giving. As we all learned yesterday, Always isn't a fan. Hopefully we can all change her mind on generosity this holiday season. Today is also National Pie Day. There is another National Pie Day on January 23rd, so this holiday is an impostor. Either way, might as well enjoy the 10 other mini pies you made yesterday Chitown! Today is also National Eat a Red Apple Day. I can get on board with that. Honeycrisp is #1 with a bullet. You also have the choice of celebrating Rosa Parks Day today. Some states celebrate it on the day she was arrested (today) or on her birthday February 4. So let your freak flag fly however you choose.

No, it's National Fried Pie Day and National French Fried Clams Day. On top of that, December begins National Egg Nog Month (yum!) and National Fruit Cake Month (I think we have enough of those here )
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Fried pie. Think McDonald's apple or cherry pies when they first came out, unlike the 'healthier' baked version they have now ... which I've never tried.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 National pie day is March 14.....this is silliness. Come on, this needs to change, right? I think we are going for ramen today before seeing the Arcs at First Ave.....not sure the place has pie.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 National French Fried Clams Day!!! I love clams! The clam po boy is the underrated cheaper cousin to the more renowned oyster po boy, but no less tasty. It's time like this I hate living in a land locked, frozen prairie burg! Curses!! Isn't National Egg Nog Month just a front for drink dark rum all month month?

Got bad oysters once, and now all mollusks are banned from my diet as my body now recognizes them as 'poison' and responds accordingly. It's just not fair! Sad face!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 Do we have conflicting calendars?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Do we have conflicting calendars? We could. There are many out there. Which one do you use? I looked up the Foodimentary one. http://foodimentary.com/december-national-food-holidays/
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/ It includes non-food items.....

Either way, might as well enjoy the 10 other mini pies you made yesterday Chitown!Do they now manufacture muffin tins with 11 cups? Are we estimating on the assumption that ChiTown had a second pie today (or will have by the time we make arrangements to raid her kitchen)? Or are you leaving a piece for me? Furthermore, as you seem to prefer my more sardonic stance on the issue of giving, I'm fine with giving as long as it isn't me. Especially if it's you. Maybe you can give me nine pies...that works for my family. Too late to throw in a few more for the dogs, especially since ChiTown's tins are the amateur kind that only hold 12.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/ It includes non-food items.....I'll have to do my giving today. I usually check my finances toward the end of the year and and then give accordingly before the New Year. And to make it clear I'm not giving to receive, yes, I do consider the tax deduction in my timing, but mostly it's to maximize what I can financially afford.

formerly33 Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 NoOkay...then...did you already have two this morning, or are you leaving two for me? Duh...<facepalm>...I can't believe I couldn't figure that one out before. But anyway, thanks in advance.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 NoCan you be a little more clear?
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Oooh, food word problems. Solve for X.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Can you be a little more clear?Obviously not. Okay...then...did you already have two this morning, or are you leaving two for me? No.
formerly33 Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Obviously not. No.Much clearer. You made use of punctuation.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Happy Wednesday. Today is National Fritters Day. Which reminds me that the great MN get together is right around the corner! Best Fritters, Ranked:- Cheese Fritter- Apple Fritter- Corn FritterToday is also National Special Education Day. Thank you to those very special teachers who have the patience and passion for helping children with disabilities.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Deja Vu all over again. Isn't a fritter another type of fried pie?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 Deja Vu all over again. Isn't a fritter another type of fried pie? I would think so.....but it wasn't fried pie day on the "actual" calendar.....
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I would think so.....but it wasn't fried pie day on the "actual" calendar.....So what day is it then?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 Vanimal is using the "correct" list......so it is fritter day.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 OK, the nationaldaycalendar.com calendar. However tomorrow could be a crisis as no food is listed for that day on that calendar. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/december/
formerly33 Verified Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I vote that tomorrow be National Banana Awareness Day. I wouldn't want to live in a world without bananas. I'm very fond of them...you can't imagine how delicious they are cut up in pieces with almond butter drizzled on top unless you've actually tried it.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Mmmmm, Pakora is my favourite fritter, followed closely by Samosa.
