Taylor Teagarden

The guy had as many as 479 plate appearances once in the minors. His second most was 286. And he's 31 so there have been a lot of seasons. So he doesn't seem like a guy who his managers were eager to get into the game as often as possible, even with the relatively small rosters that minor leagues run. It's hard to imagine he'd be a real upgrade over who we've got now.

Maybe he's good defensively and would be valuable as a third catcher, on a team that... no, too late, Gardy's gone.

Im for it.  Suzuki is getting used a ton, so its not surprising his batting numbers are down.  For example, he is catching the day game today after catching the night game yesterday.  He has done that a lot this year.  I dont think Teagarden is that good, but he is an upgrade over Fryer and Hermann

Interesting.

However, I have no idea what his defensive skills are.

From what little I have found he appears to be average.

Does anyone have more insightful data on him?

Right, He's not the long term answer, but he'd be an upgrade over Fryer and a potential compliment to Suzuki.

Guess I took too long to hit POST.

Thank you John.

His career slash of .202/.260/.376 with a 34.5% K rate in the majors tells me his .294/.375/.437 slash line in AAA with a .423 BABIP is quite an aberration.

And to clarify, this just seems like to type of marginal, post-deadline move that could help to shore up a percieved weakness that the Twins currently have.

I would take Butera as the starting catcher on this team at least playing as often as Kurt Suzuki does. You know why, because he would throw runners out, and catch the ball at the plate no matter the throw.

He would also hit for about as much power as Suzuki does. They Suzuki and Butera are equals at the plate and the same level of catcher with one having better defense.

Would be a blessing in disguise if the Royals would take Teagarden and Twins could get Butera, but that will not happen.

Did you even glance at the stats? Like at all? This has zero basis in fact.

Butera has a career OPS+ of 38. This year it's a whopping 10. Suzuki has a career mark of 86. This year it's a frustrating, but still miles better than Sweet Drew, 62.

You're off by orders of magnitude.

The Padres also designated Tim Federowicz.  He is a good defensive catcher from the sound of it.  He's never hit MLB pitching but he's also never gotten much of a chance.  He has hit well in the minors.

If Twins go dumpster diving after anyone, it should be him.
