Liam Hendriks (Another ex-Twins pitcher suceeding)

Don't look now but our old friend Liam Hendriks is carving a nice little niche in the Blue Jays bullpen.

In 17 appearances he has gone 21 innings, struck out 23 while walking 4. Although his ERA is in the mid 4-s, the FIP is under 3. He has allowed just 2/10 inherited runners to score.

Good for him. I always found his extreme MLB/AAA Jekyl & Hyde routine... interesting, for lack of a better word.

The Twins had a slew of 40 man chaff last season (and to some extent, this season) and some of it had to go. I don't fault them for releasing Hendriks.

Yep, he had his chances with the Twins.  He needed a change in scenery.

Now if they can just get on with the rest of this chaff-clearing business.

SSS? Guy has a 5.75 career ERA, hard to blame the Twins for letting him walk, I mean I guess good for him if he can end up a decent middle relief pitcher for a year or two.

You can't keep every pitcher in the hopes that they become a decent middle reliever.

The K:BB ratio is really nice but his swstr% is really low so it would be a surprise if he continued getting K's.  On the plus side his velocity bumped up quite a bit and he isn't a soft tosser anymore.

Happy for him.

Over the next few years, we are going to have to get used to a number of ex-Twins finding success elsewhere.

The key question is whether the Twins are also successful.

this, to me, points out why I'd like the Twins to take more starters that are borderline, and try them at relief. If some of these guys can add 2-3 MPH, by pitching less often, they could have real value.
