Saunders is traded for Happ

Since the idea of trading for Michael Saunders was floated elsewhere on this site, I thought I'd mention that he's off the table now.  The Jays get him from Seattle for starter J. A. Happ.

Despite their attempts to upgrade for 2015, Toronto is now officially Happ-less.

I really wanted the Twins to take a run at Saunders.  Obviously, there wasn't a perfect fit of contracts and arms to get this done on the part of the Twins.

Happ is no Cy Young candidate, but if Seattle got him for Saunders, I don't think Milone alone would have gotten it done.

Happ is a borderline #5 starter, with fly ball issues....ie, Milone. Milone has already "proven" effective in Oakland and Seattle sized parks....

Yeah.  I took another look comparing Happ vs Milone, and came away even more convinced to give Milone some more chances with the Twins.

I went to high school with J.A. Happ. And now he pitches in my Happ-y home of Seattle. And yes, in case you were wondering, I am hoping to not so Happ-hazardly leverage our common high school and mutual friends into some free tickets to see him pitch at Safeco. Not at all ashamed of that. I'm Happ-y to do it.
