Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 In Latin, pompatus is an actual word meaning "done with pomp or splendor."

twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 While it's a little odd the Gangster of Love has yet to be enshrined in the RRHOF with his top 40 radio friendly ditties, he is nowhere near the front of the bus when it comes to deserving snubs.

So many overlooked though, completely agree with Chicago and The Doobies for sure. How about Deep Purple? How is it possible that the band who's song is the first song learned by every aspiring 13 year old guitar player is overlooked? RushJethro Tull (c'mon, they used a flute!)SRVHow is Metallica in the HOF and not Judas Priest or Iron Maiden? The Guess WhoMotorheadCheap Trick (who doesn't own Live at Budokan)Dire StraitsBad Company (and Free, King Crimson and Mott The Hoople)SteppenwolfSuperTrampJohn Mayall (your welcome Eric Clapton)Paul Butterfield Blues Band (if Miller should get in based on his early work so should Butterfield and Bloomfield) Just scratching the surface, so many, so little time.

It's best not to take them too seriously. When The Eagles/Aerosmith/all that other garbage get in before The Small Faces, there's something terribly wrong.

Oh I agree entirely, any HOF is to be taken with a grain of salt, especially ones with completely subjective criteria. The Small Faces are just another in a long line of overlooked British bands. I do like The Eagles though.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Damn, does that mean I'm not a dude? Even if I also like CCR? Oh well.

I wouldn't worry about it. I cannot recognize the RRHOF as a legitimate museum to honor the greats of the past. What can one say about the term " Rock n' Roll"? Sure, if you look at it loosely, it has changed us all immensely, but if you look at it in a overall musical family tree kind of way, that place in Cleveland seems like rubbish and an overall waste. Whether it be church hymns that inspired the blues or classical music that inspired jazz, I could not tell you, but both Blues and Jazz have inspired Rock n' Roll and to this day keep throwing wood on the fire. Music has divided itself into a lot of different sub-sects. Like it or not that is how it is. In the underground scene, so many have made great contributions that should warrant a HOF election, but that is worthless. Most of these artists would feel embarrassed to receive such a package and reject it. I remember a month or so ago ChiTown mentioning she was listening to Bill Frisell. Frisell is one of, or the best living guitar player on the earth. Frisell can play any style of music. John Zorn's "Naked City" is one piece of the evidence. Robert Fripp is my favorite guitar player of all time. What Fripp has done has influenced 2 generations. Bill Frisell and Robert Fripp are diverse musicians, each on a different path. Not much separates these guys. They are the best of the best, but they will be forgotten at some point. There will be no RRHOF for them and that is why the RRHOF is a sham. HawkiConk - Keep enjoying your Steve Miller Band. It reaches you, makes you feel good, and you are able to chillax with it. Screw the "Rock n' Roll" Hall of Fame!!!
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Sporcle quiz on Rock and Roll HOF: http://www.sporcle.com/games/g/rockrollHOFinductees I've always been a bit surprised that groups like The Smiths (or just Morrisey), ELO (or just Jeff Lynne), Supertramp, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, etc aren't in. That period/type (broadly) doesn't seem that represented. I've also been a big fan of Echo and the Bunnymen but they probably don't belong in the HOF.
